Boxing Preview: O’Shaquie Foster (20-2-0,11KOs) vs Eduardo Hernandez (34-1-0, 31 KOs)

O’Shaquie Foster is set to defend his WBC World Super-Featherweight title against Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez at the Benito Juárez Sports Center in Cancun, Mexico on Saturday, October 28. This thrilling fight will be broadcast live on DAZN, in collaboration with Pepe Gomez and Cancun Boxing.

Foster (20-2 11 KOs) claimed the vacant title in San Antonio, Texas earlier this year, marking his victory by becoming the first to outscore Rey Vargas, the Mexican sensation. Now, the Houston-born champion is gearing up to face another Mexican contender in his initial title defense. This fight also adds to Foster’s global presence as it marks the fourth country he’s competed in within his last seven fights.

Hernandez (34-1 31 KOs) is excited for his obligatory challenge against Foster, especially on home soil. ‘Rocky’ is known for his knockout power and has maintained a steady streak, with his latest triumph being a third-round knockout against Hector Garcia in Monterrey this past July.

Foster shared his excitement, stating, “King Shock is ready to roll once more! I’m thrilled to defend my title. Venturing into unfamiliar territory again, I’m keen to reaffirm my position as the world’s best. Come October 28, I’ll reign supreme!”

Hernandez echoed a similar sentiment, expressing, “I’ve always dreamt of this moment. Foster is the top champion in the 130lbs category. Once I defeat him, I’ll establish myself as the division’s best.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn added, “This fight promises to be a fiery encounter in Cancun. While O’Shaquie is high on morale after defeating an elite like Vargas, Rocky is an aggressive contender who’s been overpowering all his opponents. He won’t shy away from realizing his dream. Mark your calendars for October 28; it’s going to be another memorable fight night in Mexico.”

In other news, the preliminary undercard action will feature Australian Heavyweight Justis Huni, who is all set to make his much-awaited debut with Matchroom, facing off against Andrew Tabiti. Though the duo was scheduled to fight in New Orleans in June, an ankle injury Huni sustained during training led to a postponement.

Huni (7-0 4 KOs) is eager to step back into the ring and start his new chapter with Matchroom, especially after signing a two-year contract with Hearn earlier this year. He’ll be fighting in the U.S. for the first time, taking on the former Cruiserweight World title contender Tabiti (20-1 16 KOs). This will be Tabiti’s second heavyweight fight, following a victory against James Wilson in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in August 2022.

Being here feels just like home. The fans warmly welcomed me. Being in this spotlight feels natural and comfortable to me.

If you’ve seen my previous fights, you’d know that every opponent has had a unique challenge against me. Depending on the fight’s flow, I might adopt a southpaw stance throughout, or stay orthodox. Regardless of the style, I’ve demonstrated time and again that I can knock my opponent out anytime from the first to the twelfth round. All the discussions end here. If they were indeed eager for this fight, they had opportunities in the past. Instead, he chose to fight Hector Garcia, perhaps as a warm-up, instead of vying for the World title. Despite my one-year hiatus before my fight with Vargas, I made no excuses. All I see from their end are excuses, but those in the know understand who’s been avoiding whom.

My goal is to unify the division and achieve undisputed status. While Rocky is a significant challenge, I view this as just the start of showcasing my capabilities to the world. All will be clear this Saturday.

Rocky Hernandez – Challenging O’Shaquie Foster for the WBC World Super-Featherweight title

This Saturday, anticipate a new World champion, and that’s going to be me. I’m puzzled by his insinuations that I was afraid; I fear no one. It’s due to his decisions that we had to resort to purse bids. Saturday is the day of reckoning, and I’m fully prepared to claim that title and let the world witness the prowess of Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez.

One thing’s certain, this fight isn’t going the distance. But the knockout will come from me. I’m ready to demonstrate why I’ve earned my place here.

Boxing has been my passion since day one. My only goal is to win, and I am laser-focused on getting my hand raised this Saturday. Having my family there to witness my victory will be the cherry on top.
