Boxing Preview: Josh Kelly (13-1-1, 7 KOs) vs Gabriel Corzo (18-0-0, 3 KOs)

The fight between Josh Kelly, world’s No. 2 super welterweight, and the unbeaten Gabriel Corzo, has been postponed to Saturday, July 15. The delay arises from an injury Kelly sustained during training this week, leading to the three-week deferment of the Wasserman Boxing event in Newcastle.

The fight between Kelly, the 29-year-old, and the undefeated Argentinian, Corzo, will be broadcasted live and exclusively worldwide on DAZN.

Commenting on the setback, Kalle Sauerland, Global Head of Boxing at Wasserman Boxing said, “Josh has been firing on all cylinders in the gym of late, eager to get back in the ring before his fans. However, an unfortunate injury in training has led to a three-week delay in his return. But rest assured, Josh will be ready to make a statement performance in the division, live on DAZN on July 15.”

On July 15, Josh Kelly will embark on his journey to claim the world super welterweight title in Newcastle, squaring off against Argentina’s Gabriel Corzo. This event will be broadcasted live and exclusively on DAZN worldwide.

Teaming up with Wasserman Boxing and the global broadcasting giant, Kelly’s world title pursuit is set to commence at the Vertu Motors Arena next month. Being the world’s No.2, Kelly understands that a win against Corzo could potentially lead him to a face-off with the undisputed champion, Jermell Charlo.

Nevertheless, the undefeated Corzo, ranked ninth globally, holds his own world title ambitions and is determined to upset Kelly’s trajectory, potentially shattering his dreams of a world title.

The event will also feature heavyweight contender Nathan Gorman’s return, Codie Smith’s second professional match, and the latest bout from Chloe Watson, the promising future of women’s boxing in the country.

Heavyweights Steve Robinson from Newcastle and Franklin Ignatius are set for a gripping clash, while fan favorite Ben Marksby continues his super lightweight journey. Known as ‘Pretty Boy’, Kelly’s journey is one of the most captivating comeback stories in recent British boxing history, as the 29-year-old continues his rebound from his loss to David Avanesyan.

Despite being written off by many after his stoppage loss, Kelly has silenced his critics with his extraordinary British title win over Williamson in December, marking the first milestone in his comeback journey.
