BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today continued their participation in Major League Baseball’s 2024 First-Year Player Draft with eight additional selections in rounds 3-10.
Over the first two days of the draft, Boston has selected three outfielders, three left-handed pitchers, two right-handed pitchers, one catcher, and one two-way player.
With their second pick today, 115th overall, the Red Sox selected outfielder Zach Ehrhard out of Oklahoma State University. Boston previously selected Ehrhard in the 13th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft out of Wharton High School (FL), but he did not sign and went on to bat .310 (183-591) with a .429 on-base percentage in 161 games for the Cowboys (2022-24). He also played for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League during 2023. Zach’s brother, Drew, was signed by Boston as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of Tampa in July 2023 and has played in six games this season with High-A Greenville. Their father, Rodney, was selected by the New York Yankees in the 1987 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tampa and played in the Yankees’ minor league system from 1987-90.
With their final pick today, 297th overall, Boston selected left-handed pitcher Devin Futrell out of Vanderbilt University. Prior to posting a 3.92 ERA in 42 career games (38 starts) for the Commodores (2021-24), Futrell attended American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida, where he was teammates in 2018 with Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas.
