BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced that right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks has been reinstated from the 15-Day Injured List. Hicks will wear jersey number 46. To make room on the active roster, the club has optioned right-hander Zack Kelly to Triple-A Worcester.
Hicks, 28, was acquired from the San Francisco Giants on June 15 in a trade that sent Rafael Devers west in exchange for Hicks and three additional players. The Texas native recently completed a two-game rehab stint with Worcester, logging 1.2 innings pitched. With the Giants in 2025, Hicks made 13 appearances (9 starts) and posted a 6.47 ERA (35 ER/48.2 IP) with 43 strikeouts.
Originally a third-round pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2015 MLB Draft, Hicks has appeared in 254 Major League games (37 starts) across six seasons with the Cardinals (2018–23), Blue Jays (2023), and Giants (2024–25). He owns a career 4.23 ERA (189 ER/401.2 IP), with 54 holds, 33 saves, a .234 opponent batting average, and 394 strikeouts.
Kelly, 30, has appeared in 17 games for Boston this season, recording a 5.56 ERA (14 ER/22.2 IP) with 25 strikeouts. He’s also made 11 outings (1 start) for Worcester. The Virginia native was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Oakland Athletics in 2017. Over 87 career MLB appearances (3 starts), all with Boston (2022–25), Kelly owns a 4.31 ERA (49 ER/102.1 IP) with 103 strikeouts.
