Club Options LHP Eduardo Rivera to Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today recalled left-handed pitcher Payton Tolle from Triple-A Worcester. To make room on the active roster, Boston optioned left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rivera to Worcester following last night’s game against the New York Yankees.

Tolle, 23, will start tonight’s game against the Yankees. The left-hander is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA (5 ER/15.0 IP), four walks, and 19 strikeouts in three starts for Triple-A Worcester this season. He made his Major League debut in 2025, appearing in seven games for Boston (three starts). Selected by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, the Oklahoma native is 5-5 with a 3.04 ERA (36 ER/106.2 IP), 152 strikeouts, and a .205 opponent average in 23 career minor league games (21 starts).

Rivera, 22, made his Major League debut last night against the Yankees, allowing just one hit in 3.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. The left-hander was promoted to Worcester on Tuesday after making two starts for Double-A Portland and going 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA (1 ER/10.0 IP), six hits, three walks, and 16 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Athletics in the 11th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Puerto Rico native was signed by the Red Sox as a minor league free agent in June 2024 and owns a 3.69 ERA (91 ER/222.0 IP) with 271 strikeouts in 65 career minor league games (40 starts).
