Club Recalls Right-Handed Pitcher Chase Shugart from Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Kenley Jansen on the 15-Day Injured List with right shoulder inflammation. To fill his spot on the active roster, Boston recalled right-handed pitcher Chase Shugart from Triple-A Worcester.
Jansen, 36, is tied for fifth in the American League with 27 saves, going 4-2 with a 3.29 ERA (20 ER/54.2 IP) in 54 games with Boston this season. Originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent on November 17, 2004, the Curaçao native ranks fourth all-time with 447 career saves. The right-hander is 49-36 with a 2.57 ERA (248 ER/868.1 IP) in 871 career games with the Dodgers (2010-21), Atlanta Braves (2022), and Red Sox (2023-24).
Shugart, 27, has appeared in three games for Boston this season, his Major League debut, recording a 6.00 ERA (4 ER/6.0 IP). Selected by the Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native also owns a 4.46 ERA (35 ER/70.2 IP) in 36 games (five starts) for Worcester this season.
