The Boston Red Sox announced today that right-handed pitcher Hunter Dobbins has been placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 21) due to a right elbow strain. In a corresponding move, the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts from Triple-A Worcester.

Dobbins, 25, is in his debut Major League season and has appeared in 12 games (10 starts) for Boston, compiling a 4–1 record with a 4.10 ERA (27 ER/59.1 IP). His most recent outing came Friday against San Francisco, when he tossed 4.0 innings. Originally drafted by the Red Sox in the eighth round of the 2021 MLB Draft, Dobbins has also pitched for Worcester this season, posting a 6.39 ERA in three appearances.

Fitts, also 25, rejoins the Major League roster after making five starts for Boston earlier this year, where he posted a 4.71 ERA (11 ER/21.0 IP). In three starts for Worcester this season, he’s registered a 5.25 ERA. Selected by the Yankees in the sixth round of the 2021 Draft, the Alabama native owns a 3.24 career ERA over nine starts with the Red Sox between 2024 and 2025, recording 24 strikeouts in 41.2 innings.

Fitts will be available out of the rotation immediately as the Red Sox work to adjust their pitching staff amid Dobbins’ absence.
