Club Recalls INF/OF Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed infielder Curtis Mead on the 10-Day Injured List (retroactive to July 28) with a left wrist fracture. To fill his spot, Boston recalled infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester.
Mead, 25, made his Red Sox debut on Monday against the Athletics and was later removed from the game after being hit by a pitch in the fourth inning. He was acquired from the Washington Nationals on Saturday in exchange for left-handed pitcher Connelly Early. The right-handed hitter has played 88 games between the Nationals and Red Sox, batting .253 (72-for-285) with a .353 on-base percentage, 49 runs scored, 17 doubles, one triple, 17 home runs, 48 RBI, 39 walks, and six stolen bases. A native of Australia, Mead was originally signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as an international free agent in May 2018 and has hit .244 (178-for-730) with 33 doubles, 22 home runs, and 79 RBI in 240 career Major League games with the Tampa Bay Rays (2023-25), Chicago White Sox (2025), Nationals (2026), and Red Sox (2026).
Sogard, 28, has played in 12 Major League games for Boston this season, batting .257 (9-for-35) with two doubles and one triple while making six starts at second base, four at third base, and one at shortstop. The switch-hitter has also played in 49 minor league games between Triple-A Worcester (46) and Double-A Portland (three), hitting .261 (46-for-176) with 11 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 28 RBI, and an .826 OPS. Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has batted .264 (55-for-208) in 73 career Major League games, all with the Red Sox (2024-26).
