Boston Red Sox Move Romy Gonzalez to Injured List, Recall Nick Sogard from Triple-A

Boston, MA – The Boston Red Sox have placed infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez on the 10-day Injured List, retroactive to May 8, due to a left quad contusion. In response, the club has recalled infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester to fill his roster spot.

Romy Gonzalez’s 2025 Season So Far

The 28-year-old utility player has posted an impressive .308 batting average (16-for-52) in 17 games, including six doubles. Gonzalez has played 10 games at first base, one at second base, and one at third base. A former Chicago White Sox draft pick (18th round, 2018), the Florida native has accumulated a .249 career batting average with 27 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, 62 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases across 192 career games for the White Sox (2021-23) and Red Sox (2024-25).

Nick Sogard’s Call-Up & Background

Sogard, 27, has played 28 games for Worcester this season, seeing action at multiple positions: shortstop (13 games), third base (5 games), second base (5 games), right field (3 games), and first base (2 games). A switch-hitter, Sogard made his MLB debut with Boston in 2024, batting .273 (21-for-77) with four doubles, eight RBIs, and three stolen bases across 31 games. Originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round of the 2019 draft, the California native was acquired by the Red Sox in a four-player trade on February 17, 2021.

Boston will look to Sogard to provide infield depth and versatility as Gonzalez recovers.
