Boston Red Sox finalizes three roster transactions

BOSTON, MA –The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster transactions:

  • RHP Richard Fitts has been recalled from Triple-A Worcester.
  • INF David Hamilton has also been recalled from Triple-A Worcester.
  • INF/OF Abraham Toro has been designated for assignment.

Fitts, 25, returns to the big league roster after making 10 starts for Boston this season, posting a 4.83 ERA over 41.0 innings. In the minors, he’s logged a 3.60 ERA across seven starts split between Worcester and Double-A Portland. A sixth-round pick by the Yankees in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Alabama native has compiled a 3.79 ERA in 14 career Major League starts, all with Boston since debuting in 2024.

Hamilton, 27, has appeared in 69 games this season, making 31 starts at second base and six at shortstop, while batting .174 with 17 stolen bases. In nine games with Worcester, he’s hit .282 with two homers. Originally drafted by Milwaukee in the eighth round of the 2019 Draft, the Texas native owns a career MLB line of .218 with 52 stolen bases in 182 games, all with the Red Sox.

Toro, 28, is removed from the roster after playing 77 games this season, hitting .239 with 13 doubles, seven home runs, and 27 RBI. He’s made 57 starts at first base and 10 at third, while also batting .310 with an .883 OPS in 28 games for Worcester. A fifth-round pick by Houston in 2016, the Quebec native has played 442 career games across five MLB clubs—Astros, Mariners, Brewers, Athletics, and Red Sox—posting a .223 career average with 41 home runs and 161 RBI.
