Boston Red Sox announce four roster transactions

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Selected left-handed pitcher Shane Drohan and right-handed pitchers David Sandlin and Tyler Uberstine to the Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester.
  • Traded left-handed pitcher Brennan Bernardino to the Colorado Rockies, in exchange for minor league outfielder Braiden Ward.
  • Traded left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy to the Chicago White Sox, in exchange for minor league catcher Ronny Hernandez.
  • Designated right-handed pitcher Josh Winckowski for assignment.

Boston’s 40-man roster is now at 40.

Drohan, 26, went 5-2 with a 3.00 ERA (18 ER/54.0 IP) with 77 strikeouts, and a .202 opponent batting average between High-A Greenville (three starts) and Worcester (12 games, 11 starts). The left-hander ranked third among 2025 Red Sox minor league pitchers (min. 50.0 IP) in strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched (12.83). Selected by Boston in the fifth round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native owns a 4.29 ERA (196 ER/411.2 IP) in 104 career minor league games (89 starts). He was also selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 2023 Rule 5 Draft but returned to the Red Sox on June 11, 2024.

Sandlin, 24, posted a 4.50 ERA (53 ER/106.0 IP), 107 strikeouts, and 40 walks between Double-A Portland (17 games, 13 starts) and Worcester (15 games, one start). Ranked as one of Boston’s top 15 prospects by both MLB.com (No. 10) and Baseball America (No. 11), the right-hander was twice named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week in 2025 (May 26-June 1 and June 16-22). Originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 11th round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the Oklahoma native was acquired by the Red Sox via trade on February 17, 2024. He owns a 4.38 ERA (113 ER/232.0 IP) with 279 strikeouts in 65 career minor league games (47 starts).

Uberstine, 26, pitched in 25 games (21 starts) during 2025, recording a 3.58 ERA (48 ER/120.2 IP) with 137 strikeouts between Double-A Portland (six starts) and Worcester (19 games, 15 starts). In his final 3 starts of the season, dating back to September 5, the right-hander went 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA (2 ER/16.0 IP) and 20 strikeouts. Selected by the Red Sox in the 19th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 3.57 ERA (89 ER/224.2 IP) in 54 career minor league games (40 starts).
