Boston, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced the acquisition of minor league right-handed pitcher Joe Vogatsky from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez.

Vogatsky, 22, was selected by Pittsburgh in the 19th round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft. Born in Fairfax, Virginia, the right-hander pitched at James Madison University for four seasons (2021-24), serving exclusively as a reliever during his junior and senior years. Over his final two seasons, he compiled a 7-3 record with 14 saves, a 3.43 ERA (30 ER/78.2 IP), and 84 strikeouts.

Valdez, 25, has a career Major League batting average of .235 (80-for-340) with 20 doubles and 12 home runs in 125 games, all played with Boston between 2023 and 2024.
