BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Jake Bennett from the Washington Nationals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Luis Perales.

Bennett, 25, was selected by Washington in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft and is ranked among the Nationals’ top prospects (No. 6 by Baseball America, No. 11 by MLB.com). The Oklahoma native has compiled a 2.67 ERA (41 ER/138.1 IP) with 137 strikeouts across 34 career games (33 starts) between 2023 and 2025. Perales, 22, returned from Tommy John surgery in September, making his season debut with Double-A Portland on September 13 and his Triple-A debut with Worcester four days later. Signed by Boston as an international free agent in July 2019, the Venezuela native owns a 3.31 ERA (60 ER/163.1 IP) in 47 career minor league games (43 starts). He also started six games for the Salt River Rafters in the 2025 Arizona Fall League. Perales is currently ranked among the Red Sox’s top prospects (No. 5 by Baseball America, No. 7 by MLB.com).
