PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Gaming announced Thursday that it will begin accepting applications for limited event wagering licenses starting Aug. 13, 2026, opening a new pathway for racetracks and off‑track betting facilities to partner with licensed event wagering operators.
The license type, established under A.R.S. § 5‑1307, allows the Department to issue up to 10 limited event wagering licenses tied to 10 designated locations across the state. These licenses enable retail‑style sports betting at racetracks and additional wagering venues permitted by the Division of Racing.
“Applicants for limited event wagering operator licenses will undergo a thorough licensing evaluation process structured to ensure consumer protection,” said Cliff Holden, Assistant Director of Certification and Licensing. “We look forward to receiving new applications for limited event wagering within the state of Arizona.”
The application window will run from Aug. 13 through Aug. 27, 2026, closing at 5 p.m. Arizona time. Only completed applications submitted within that period will be considered.
Arizona’s sports betting market has grown significantly since launching in 2021. Bettors have wagered $34.6 billion, generating approximately $185.8 million in privilege fees for the state.
Under limited event wagering operations, Arizonans will be able to place bets in person at racetracks and affiliated facilities. The state will collect 8% of adjusted retail event wagering revenue from these operations, contributing additional monthly revenue.
The Department will review all applications according to criteria outlined in state rules and statutes.
