NHL Morning Skate – Nov. 16, 2025

* Jason Robertson, who is hoping to crack Team USA’s roster for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, scored three straight goals to help the Stars extend several winning streaks.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl connected on another game-winning goal to climb the NHL’s all-time overtime points list.

* Sunday starts with the Penguins and Predators playing the 2025 NHL Global Series Sweden presented by Fastenal finale following Nashville’s late comeback win during the opener. The slate is capped by the first head-to-head game between a pair of No. 1 picks on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.

Robertson notches natural hat trick as Dallas defeats philadelphia
Jason Robertson scored his second career natural hat trick (also March 26, 2025) as the Stars stretched their winning streak to five games and improved to 9-0-0 in their last nine home contests against the Flyers dating to Dec. 11, 2015. Robertson became the second player in franchise history with multiple natural hat tricks, following Minnesota North Stars forward Neal Broten (Nov. 17, 1985 & Nov. 26, 1983).

* Robertson attended Team USA’s orientation camp for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 and is hoping to help the Americans win their first men’s gold medal since Broten was part of the “Miracle on Ice” team in 1980. Robertson and Broten are two of 15 American players in NHL history with multiple natural hat tricks – the only skater among that group with three is former Olympian and Stars forward Brett Hull.

McDAVID, DRAISAITL PROPEL OILERS TO OVERTIME VICTORY
After Connor McDavid (2-1—3) scored twice to put the Oilers up 2-0 and 3-2, the Hurricanes battled back to pull even in the third period but Leon Draisaitl (1-2—3) found the back of the net in overtime to lift Edmonton to victory at Lenovo Center.

* McDavid, who surpassed Wayne Gretzky on the Oilers’ go-ahead goals list, assisted on a game-winning goal scored by Draisaitl for the 44th time in his career. McDavid tied Bryan Trottier (44 on GWGs by Mike Bossy) for the third-most assists on game winners scored by one teammate in NHL history behind Henrik Sedin (66 on GWGs by Daniel Sedin) and Nicklas Backstrom (51 on GWGs by Alex Ovechkin).

* Draisaitl scored his 20th career overtime goal and surpassed John Tavares and Jaromir Jagr for the fourth most in NHL history. It also marked his 73rd career game-winning goal, breaking a three-way tie with McDavid and Glenn Anderson for the most in Oilers history.

SABRES COMPLETE LEAGUE’S FOURTH THREE-GOAL COMEBACK WIN THIS SEASON
The Sabres fell behind 4-1 early in the game but cut the deficit to two heading into the third period, where Tage Thompson (1-1—2) and Ryan McLeod, who scored shorthanded, levelled the game and sent it to overtime. The extra frame saw Thompson assist on Mattias Samuelsson’s first career overtime goal to give Buffalo its first three-goal comeback victory since March 28, 2022, when they were down as much as four against the Blackhawks.

* McLeod scored his second shorthanded goal of the season. He became the second Sabres player in the past 15 years to register multiple shorthanded goals in consecutive seasons (also Dylan Cozens from 2022-23 – 2023-24).

Rookie Wallstedt BLANKING DUCKS FEATURED IN #NHLSTATS: LIVE UPDATES

Saturday’s edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates featured more notes from the 13-game slate, including a 28-save shutout by Jesper Wallstedt:

Matt Boldy (1-1—2) factored on both Minnesota goals in its 2-0 win, which marked Wallstedt’s second straight blank sheet. The netminder became the first rookie in franchise history with consecutive shutouts as well as the youngest Wild goaltender to achieve the feat, besting the previous mark set by 24-year-old Darcy Kuemper (2 GP from Oct. 9-11, 2014).
