Blue Bombers Bolster Secondary with Return of Demerio Houston and Addition of Russell Dandy

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have reinforced their defensive backfield, announcing the addition of Demerio Houston and Russell Dandy to the practice roster.

Houston Returns to Familiar Territory
Houston (5’11”, 170 lbs) rejoins the Bombers after a standout 2024 campaign with the Calgary Stampeders, where he led the team with five interceptions and 74 defensive tackles, adding a sack. A key contributor in Winnipeg from 2021 to 2023, Houston started 26 of 30 games, racking up 84 tackles and nine interceptions, including a pick-six. He was part of the 2021 Grey Cup-winning squad and earned All-CFL honors in 2023 before heading to Calgary in free agency.

Dandy Gets Another Shot
Dandy (6’0″, 170 lbs) returns to Winnipeg after being released at the end of training camp. He previously attended camp in 2024 and brings a strong collegiate résumé. After starting at Butte College, he transferred to Eastern Illinois, where he earned First Team All-Big South Conference honors in 2023 and led the FCS with 19 passes defended, plus one interception. Dandy also participated in the New York Jets rookie minicamp earlier this year.

Roster Update
The Blue Bombers have also announced the release of American running back Quinton Cooley from the practice roster.
