NEW YORK – New York City FC has confirmed the extension of midfielder James Sands’ loan to German side FC St. Pauli, now set to run through June 30, 2026.
Sands originally joined the Bundesliga-bound club in January 2025 and made seven appearances before suffering a season-ending leg injury. Despite the setback, FC St. Pauli secured promotion and will compete in Germany’s top flight next season.
A product of NYCFC’s academy, Sands made history in 2024 by becoming the first Homegrown player to reach 100 MLS appearances for the club. That same season, he was honored as New York City FC’s Defensive MVP, solidifying his reputation as one of the league’s most reliable midfielders.
The club extends its support and best wishes to James Sands as he continues his journey in Germany.
