Right-hander joins Pittsburgh, optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis

Pittsburgh – The Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed right-handed pitcher Michael Darrell-Hicks off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels, assigning him to Triple-A Indianapolis.

To make room on the 40-man roster, catcher/first baseman Endy Rodríguez has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Darrell-Hicks, 27, was designated for assignment by the Angels on June 8. This season, he has posted a 1-0 record with a 9.39 ERA (7.2 IP/8 ER) in six relief appearances at the Major League level. In Triple-A Salt Lake, he has gone 0-2 with an 8.87 ERA (22.1 IP/22 ER) across 17 relief outings.
