Right-hander heads to Cincinnati in exchange for cash considerations

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox have traded right-handed pitcher Brian Van Belle to the Cincinnati Reds, receiving cash considerations in return.

Van Belle, 28, was designated for assignment on June 11 after being selected to Boston’s active Major League roster on June 9, though he did not make an appearance. This season, he has pitched in 12 games (eight starts) for Worcester, posting a 5-1 record with a 2.29 ERA (13 ER/51.0 IP), a 1.06 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts.

Originally signed by Boston as a non-drafted free agent in June 2020, the Florida native has compiled a 37-19 record with a 4.41 ERA (246 ER/502.1 IP) across 115 career minor league games (84 starts), all within the Red Sox organization.
