BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox have announced a six-year contract extension with left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet, covering the 2026-2031 seasons.

Crochet, 25, made his highly anticipated debut as Boston’s Opening Day starter on March 27, delivering an impressive performance in a 5-2 victory against the Texas Rangers. The southpaw pitched 5.0 innings, allowing two runs while striking out four and walking two.

Crochet was acquired by the Red Sox in a trade with the Chicago White Sox on December 11, 2024, in exchange for four minor league prospects. Over his MLB career, Crochet has compiled a 3.29 ERA (82 earned runs across 224.0 innings), with 298 strikeouts and a .221 opponent batting average across 105 appearances (33 starts) with the White Sox (2020-24) and Red Sox (2025).

Crochet’s accolades include being named the 2024 American League Comeback Player of the Year and earning his first All-Star selection. During the 2024 season, he made 32 starts for the Chicago White Sox, finishing with a 3.58 ERA (58 earned runs over 146.0 innings), 209 strikeouts, 33 walks, a 1.07 WHIP, and a .222 opponent batting average. Among pitchers with at least 30 starts that season, Crochet ranked first in strikeout rate (35.1%) and strikeouts per 9.0 innings (12.88), second in FIP (2.69), and third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.33).

Originally drafted by the White Sox in the first round (No. 11 overall) of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft, Crochet made MLB history by debuting in September 2020, becoming the first pitcher since Brandon Finnegan (2014) to reach the big leagues in the same year they were drafted. Initially working as a reliever, Crochet made his first career start on Opening Day 2024 after solidifying himself as a versatile pitching talent. In four career postseason outings (2020-21), he has allowed no runs over 3.0 innings, striking out six while issuing one walk and allowing five hits.

A native of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Crochet graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 2017 and went on to pitch at the University of Tennessee from 2018-2020. His trajectory with the Red Sox solidifies him as a key figure in Boston’s rotation for years to come.
