Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced today that they have signed free agent right-handed pitcher Luke Jackson (#77) to a one-year contract for the 2025 season. To accommodate Jackson on the 40-man roster, the Rangers have placed right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz on the 60-day Injured List due to his recovery from right shoulder surgery.

Jackson, 33, is returning to the team that originally drafted him in the first round (45th overall) of the 2010 MLB Draft. He made his Major League debut with the Rangers in 2015-16. In the 2024 season, Jackson posted a 4-3 record with a 5.09 ERA over 52 appearances with the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves, averaging 10.0 strikeouts per 9 innings. He finished the season strong, recording a 2.19 ERA (3 ER/12.1 IP) over his final 12 outings with the Braves from August to September.

Jackson previously logged a team-high 18 saves with the Braves in 2019 and was a key bullpen member for the 2021 World Series champion Braves, pitching 3.2 shutout innings in the Fall Classic against the Astros. He missed the entire 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April of that year.

Making his MLB debut with the Rangers on September 4, 2015, against the Los Angeles Angels, Jackson has accumulated a 22-11 record with 19 saves and a 4.24 ERA over his nine-year MLB career, while averaging 9.7 strikeouts per 9 innings. He has played for the Rangers (2015-16), Braves (2017-22, 2024), and Giants (2023-24).

Sborz, 31, underwent right shoulder surgery in November after posting a 2-2 record with a 3.86 ERA (7 ER/16.1 IP) over 17 relief appearances for the Rangers in 2024. In his Major League career, Sborz holds a 13-13 record with a 4.96 ERA in 154 games (one start) with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2019-20) and Texas Rangers (2021-24).

With these moves, the Rangers’ 40-man roster remains at full capacity.
