The Toronto Blue Jays have signed RHP Jacob Barnes to a Minor League contract, including an invite to the 2025 Major League Spring Training.
Barnes, 34, appeared in 63 games out of the Nationals bullpen in 2024, marking the second-highest total of his career (he made 73 appearances in 2017). He recorded a 4.36 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, a 7.2% walk rate, and a 19.9% strikeout rate. Hailing from St. Petersburg, FL, Barnes was initially drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 14th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft and made his MLB debut with the Brewers in 2016. He previously made 10 appearances for the Blue Jays in 2021.
Standing at 6-2 and weighing 231 lbs, Barnes has accumulated 328 MLB appearances over nine seasons, posting a 4.68 ERA in 328.2 innings. His career stats include a 4.18 FIP, a 9.2% walk rate, and a 22.2% strikeout rate. Throughout his career, he has played for the Brewers, Royals, Angels, Mets, Blue Jays, Tigers, Yankees, Cardinals, and Nationals.
