Chicago White Sox Sign Michael A. Taylor to One-Year Deal; Place Jesse Scholtens on Injured List

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Chicago White Sox have finalized a one-year, $1.95-million contract with veteran outfielder Michael A. Taylor. To make room for Taylor on the 40-man roster, the White Sox have placed right-handed pitcher Jesse Scholtens on the 60-day injured list.

Taylor, 33, has a career slash line of .235/.290/.381 (748-3,185) with 136 doubles, 14 triples, 100 home runs, 353 RBIs, 394 runs scored, and 120 stolen bases in 1,082 games over 11 major league seasons with Washington (2014-20), Kansas City (2021-22), Minnesota (2023), and Pittsburgh (2024). Last season, while with the Pirates, Taylor batted .193/.253/.290 (52-269) with five home runs and 21 RBIs across 113 games.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 215 pounds, Taylor leads all major league outfielders with 52 defensive runs saved since 2020. He won an American League Gold Glove Award with the Royals in 2021. Taylor has also played in 21 postseason games, posting a .275 batting average (14-51) with four home runs and 10 RBIs. He was a key member of Washington’s World Series championship team in 2019.

Scholtens, 30, missed the entire 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March.
