The 33-year-old Mayza has accumulated a career record of 20-9 with four saves, a 3.88 ERA (301.2 innings pitched/130 earned runs), and 304 strikeouts in 367 appearances with the Toronto Blue Jays (2017-24) and the New York Yankees (2024).

Last season, Mayza posted a combined 0-2 record with a 6.33 ERA (42.2 innings pitched/30 earned runs) in 50 appearances between Toronto and New York.

From 2021 to 2023, Mayza recorded a 2.67 ERA (155.0 innings pitched/46 earned runs) in 193 appearances, ranking third among all left-handed relievers with at least 120 innings pitched in MLB, trailing only Josh Hader (2.45) and Matt Moore (2.57).

During the 2023 campaign, Mayza registered the third-lowest ERA (1.52) among all American League relievers, behind only Chris Martin (1.05) and Felix Bautista (1.48), while making a career-high 69 appearances.

Since his MLB debut in 2017, Mayza has allowed just 25.2 percent of his inherited runners to score, the fifth-lowest rate in MLB (minimum 150 inherited runners).

To make room for Mayza on the 40-man roster, the Pirates have designated infielder Alika Williams for assignment.

Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster remains full.
