Boxing Preview: Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) vs Amanda Serrano (47-2-1, 31 KOs)

Katie Taylor is set to defend her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight titles on November 15. Even if she loses, she retains her light-welterweight titles, easing some pressure, but she’s fully committed to the fight in Texas.

The 38-year-old Irish boxer aims to end her career with as many titles as possible. The 2012 Olympic Gold medalist is close to cementing her status as the greatest female boxer of all time, boasting a 23-1 record. Her only loss came by majority decision to Chantelle Cameron, the then light-welterweight champion, in May last year. Taylor avenged this defeat seven months later. Now, she steps down to the lightweight division to face Amanda Serrano, whom she narrowly beat by split decision two years ago at Madison Square Garden, Taylor’s only bout outside the British Isles in her last 10 fights.

Taylor has only fought two American (Puerto Rican) boxers in the U.S.—Amanda and Cindy Serrano—winning both by decision. While odds favor Taylor, Serrano, with her motivation, skills, and physique, aims to claim victory on November 15. Serrano, like Taylor, is often in the conversation for the greatest female boxer title. With a 47-2-1 record, she holds the Guinness Record for the most titles in different weight classes.

Besides boxing, Serrano has ventured into MMA, submission grappling, and pro wrestling. Some believe these distractions affected her preparation for the first fight with Taylor in 2022.

This bout promises to be a thrilling rematch between two of the sport’s best.
