Club Recalls Catcher/Infielder Mickey Gasper from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed third baseman Rafael Devers on the 10-Day Injured List with left shoulder inflammation. To fill his spot on the active roster, Boston recalled infielder catcher/infielder Mickey Gasper from Triple-A Worcester.

Devers, 27, has batted .272 (143-for-525) with an .870 OPS, 28 home runs, and 83 RBI in 138 games this season. The left-handed hitter has made 130 starts at third base and eight as the designated hitter. Signed by Boston as an international free agent in August 2013, the Dominican Republic native has hit .279 (1,062-for-3,802) with 200 home runs and 638 RBI in 980 career Major League games, all with the Red Sox.

Gasper, 28, has played in 10 games for Boston this season, his Major League debut, making three starts at second base. The switch-hitter has also played in 92 minor league games this season with Worcester (48 games) and Double-A Portland (44 games). With Worcester, he has hit .367 (62-for-169) with 38 runs scored and 36 RBI. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 27th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the New Hampshire native was selected by Boston in the minor league phase of the 2023 Rule 5 Draft.
