Club Options Right-Handed Pitcher Cooper Criswell to Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today reinstated right-handed pitcher Luis García from the 15-Day Injured List. To make room, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell to Triple-A Worcester.
García, 37, was placed on the Injured List with right elbow inflammation on August 27. He pitched in one rehab game with Worcester, tossing a scoreless inning on September 17 at Lehigh Valley. Acquired by the Red Sox from the Los Angeles Angels on July 30, the right-hander owns a 10.32 ERA (13 ER/11.1 IP) in 11 games with Boston. Originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an international free agent in January 2004, the Dominican Republic native has posted a 4.16 ERA (242 ER/524.0 IP) in 541 career games (four starts) with the Philadelphia Phillies (2013-18), Angels (2019, 2024), Texas Rangers (2020), St. Louis Cardinals (2021), San Diego Padres (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024).
Criswell, 28, pitched the 12th inning in last night’s game against the Twins. The right-hander has pitched in a career-high 26 games (18 starts), posting a 4.08 ERA (45 ER/99.1 IP) with 73 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 13th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Georgia native also owns a 1.40 ERA (4 ER/25.2 IP) in five games (all starts) for Worcester.
