Oakland A’s place OF Andujar on injured list; recall INF Allen from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed outfielder Miguel Andujar on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Aug. 25 with a core muscle injury and recalled infielder Nick Allen from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. Infielder Abraham Toro, who was designated for assignment yesterday, has cleared waivers and was outrighted to Las Vegas.

This is the second stint on the injured list for Andujar this year as he began the season on the IL following lateral meniscus surgery on his right knee. He was reinstated on May 24 and is batting .285 with four home runs, 30 RBI and a .697 OPS in 75 games. Andujar has a .333 batting average with runners in scoring position and ranks third among Major League outfielders with 10 assists, despite just 72 games in the outfield.

Allen joins the A’s for the second time this year. He was on the Opening Day roster and batted .171 with a home run and three RBI in 28 games before he was optioned to Las Vegas on May 3. The 25-year-old right-handed hitter batted .345 with 26 doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 51 RBI, 64 runs scored and 16 stolen bases in 81 games with the Aviators. He had a .928 OPS and walked 49 times against 41 strikeouts. Allen went on the Triple-A injured list following his option and was reinstated on May 17. From that date on, he led the Pacific Coast League in batting, on-base percentage (.431), runs and hits, ranked second in doubles, fourth in OPS and walks, tied for sixth in extra base hits (34) and 10th in RBI.
