Philadelphia Phillies reinstate Wilson from paternity list; option Kennedy

Prior to today’s game against the Houston Astros, the Phillies reinstated infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson from the paternity list. To make room for him on the 26-man roster, infielder Buddy Kennedy was optioned to triple-A Lehigh Valley following last night’s game.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Wilson, 29, has slashed .421/.439/.789 with a 1.228 OPS in 11 starts since being recalled from the IronPigs on July 12. In his second stint with the Phillies this season, he became the first rookie in franchise history to hit for the cycle on Aug. 15 against the Washington Nationals.

Wilson was originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 17th round of the 2016 MLB Draft and was signed by the Phillies as a free agent on Jan. 3, 2023.

The 25-year-old Kennedy was acquired by the Phillies from the Detroit Tigers on June 7 and slashed .313/.415/.543 with 19 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 29 RBI, 34 walks, 39 runs scored and a .958 OPS in 56 games for Lehigh Valley since then. He did not appear in a game for the Phillies since being recalled on Monday.

The Millville High School graduate was originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
