CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have acquired left-handed pitcher Trey McGough (“mik-GO”) from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jiménez and cash considerations.
McGough, 26, is 2-0 with a 1.99 ERA (12 ER/54.1 IP), 0.99 WHIP, .174 (33-190) opponents average, two saves and 55 strikeouts over 28 relief appearances with Class AA Bowie and Class AAA Norfolk this season. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound McGough currently owns a 10.0 scoreless IP streak, and has recorded a 1.35 ERA (4 ER/26.2 IP) with 21 strikeouts and zero home runs allowed over his last 13 appearances since June 2. He is limiting left-handers to a .191 (17-89) mark with zero home runs and 27 strikeouts this season.
A native of Johnstown, Pa., McGough was named an Arizona Fall League Rising Star with Mesa in 2023. He was selected by the Orioles from Pittsburgh in the Triple-A phase of the 2022 Rule 5 Draft.
McGough is 13-8 with a 2.98 ERA (79 ER/238.1 IP), .219 (192-877) opponents average and 221 strikeouts in 85 career games (28 starts) over five minor-league seasons in the Pirates (2019, ’21-22) and Orioles (‘23-24) organizations. He originally was selected by Pittsburgh in the 24th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of Mt. St. Mary’s University.
McGough will be assigned to Class AAA Charlotte.
Jiménez, 27, is hitting .240/.297/.345 (55-229) with nine doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI and a .642 OPS in 65 games this season, his sixth with the White Sox.
A (22 ER/48.0 IP), 55 strikeouts, two saves and seven holds this season, his third with the White Sox. He originally was selected by the Sox in the 18th round of the 2014 draft.
