Option RHP Gerson Garabito to Triple-A Round Rock, Dunning missed the Rangers’ last 16 games with right shoulder soreness

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Thursday’s series finale against the Chicago White Sox at Globe Life Field:

  • Right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning activated from the 15-day Injured List.
  • Right-handed pitcher Gerson Garabito optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Dunning, 29, was placed on the 15-day Injured List on July 5 (retroactive to July 4) with right shoulder soreness, missing the Rangers last 16 games. The right-hander appeared in two games (one start) on rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, totaling 5.0 scoreless innings (1 H, 1 BB, 3 SO) in those outings. He last appeared on Saturday for Round Rock, throwing 47 pitches (32 strikes) over 3.0 scoreless, hitless frames in the Express’ 2-1 win over Oklahoma City at Dell Diamond.

Dunning has gone 4-7 with a 4.71 ERA (34 ER/65.0 IP), 72 strikeouts, and 31 walks across 15 games (12 starts) for the Rangers this season, making 12 consecutive starts to open the season. He transitioned to a bullpen role following his June 16 start at Seattle, making 3 relief appearances from June 25-July 3 over which he posted a 4.50 ERA (3 ER/6.0 IP).

The 28-year-old Garabito has pitched to a 1.35 ERA (1 ER/6.2 IP) with 5 strikeouts and 5 walks over 4 games (one start) spanning a pair of Major League stints with the Rangers this season (May 26-June 7, July 21-24). The San Cristobal, D.R. native last appeared in Wednesday’s 10-2 victory over the White Sox, retiring all three batters he faced over a scoreless 9th inning.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with seven players on the 60-day Injured List: Cody Bradford, Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Josh Jung, Tyler Mahle, Austin Pruitt, Cole Winn.
