A’s Reinstate RHP Lucas Erceg from 15-day IL; Option RHP Otañez to Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s reinstated right-handed pitcher Lucas Erceg from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Michel Otañez to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Erceg was placed on the injured list on May 31, retroactive to May 28, with a strained right forearm. He was on the A’s Opening Day roster and was 2-2 with two saves, a 2.86 ERA and .627 opponents OPS in 21 relief appearances. He had 27 strikeouts in 22.0 innings and held the opposition to a .182 batting average. Erceg did not have a rehab assignment.

Otañez made one appearance, his Major League debut, on Monday against the Padres. He allowed one hit and one walk in 0.2 innings. Otañez has spent the remainder of the season with Las Vegas where he is 4-0 with a save, a 3.99 ERA and .633 opponents OPS in 22 relief appearances. He was originally signed by the Mets out of the Dominican Republic in 2016 before signing a minor league deal with Arizona following the 2022 season.
