Virginia’s casino industry posted another strong month in July 2026, with the Virginia Lottery reporting more than $102 million in gaming revenue across the state’s five operating casinos. The figures reflect continued growth in the Commonwealth’s expanding gaming sector, which now includes properties in Bristol, Portsmouth, Danville, Norfolk, and Petersburg.
Five Casinos Contribute to July Revenue Total
The July report covers activity at:
- Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol
- Rivers Casino Portsmouth
- Caesars Virginia (Danville)
- The Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk
- Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia (Petersburg)
Together, the casinos generated over $102 million in adjusted gross revenue (AGR), defined as total wagers minus winnings.
More Than $20 Million Paid Into State Gaming Fund
Under Virginia law, casino AGR is subject to a graduated tax structure, with rates increasing as revenue rises. In July, casinos paid $20.3 million in taxes to the Gaming Proceeds Fund, which supports a range of state and local initiatives.
Statutory distributions from casino tax revenue include allocations to:
- Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund
- Family and Children’s Trust Fund
- Gaming Local Aid Fund (host cities)
- Virginia Indigenous People’s Trust Fund
For Bristol, the host‑city portion is directed to the Regional Improvement Commission (RIC). Norfolk’s casino operates in partnership with the Pamunkey Indian Tribe, which receives distributions as outlined in state law.
Cumulative Casino Tax Collections Surpass $2.5 Billion
Since the launch of casino gaming in Virginia, the Commonwealth has collected approximately $2.501 billion in taxes and assessments from the operations of Hard Rock Bristol, Rivers Portsmouth, Caesars Virginia, the Norfolk gaming hall, and Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia.
