The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of veteran left‑hander Cole Irvin on Sunday and placed right‑handed reliever Brock Stewart on the injured list with right‑shoulder discomfort. To clear a spot on the 40‑man roster, the club designated right‑hander Chayce McDermott for assignment.
Irvin Returns to Majors After Strong Triple‑A Season
Irvin, 32, earns his first Major League assignment since 2024 following a solid campaign with Triple‑A Oklahoma City. He made 20 starts, posting a 9–6 record and 3.58 ERA, and signed a minor‑league deal with Los Angeles on Feb. 4 after appearing in four spring‑training games for the club.
A six‑year Major League veteran, Irvin has pitched for the Phillies, Athletics, Orioles, and Twins, compiling a 28–40 record and 4.54 ERA across 134 games (93 starts). Philadelphia drafted him in the fifth round in 2016 out of the University of Oregon.
Stewart Heads to IL for Third Time This Season
Stewart, 34, lands on the injured list for the third time in 2026. He has appeared in 14 games for the Dodgers this year, logging 14.2 innings with 14 strikeouts. Now in his eighth Major League season, Stewart has pitched for the Dodgers, Blue Jays, and Twins, owning a career 10–6 record and 4.34 ERA with 204 strikeouts in 201.1 innings.
Los Angeles originally drafted Stewart in the sixth round in 2014 out of Illinois State University.
McDermott Designated for Assignment
Right‑hander Chayce McDermott was designated for assignment to accommodate Irvin on the 40‑man roster. The Dodgers did not announce a corresponding move for McDermott.
