Seager is beginning his third stint on the Injured List in 2026

Cleveland, Ohio — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to this afternoon’s series finale against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field:

  • Shortstop Corey Seager placed on the 10-day Injured List (lower back inflammation).
  • Infielder Josh Smith recalled from Triple-A Round Rock

Seager was in the Rangers starting lineup yesterday at Cleveland but was lifted for pinch hitter Cam Cauley before his initial plate appearance in the 1st inning. The 32-year-old shortstop is beginning his third Injured List stint of 2026, also missing 19 games from May 15-June 4 with lower back inflammation and another 12 games from June 12-24 with a concussion. Seager is batting .182 (34-187) with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in 51 games for Texas this season.

Smith, 28, hit .235 (8-34) with one home run, 2 doubles, 5 RBI, 4 walks, 2 stolen bases, and 5 runs scored in 8 games with Round Rock after being optioned by Texas on June 19. The left-handed-hitting infielder recorded multiple hits in 2 of his last 3 games with the Express last weekend, hitting a 410-foot solo home run on Sunday off Tacoma’s Carson Fulmer. Smith has played 34 games for the Rangers this season, including 28 starts at second base, batting .218 (22-101) with 3 doubles and 6 RBI. He missed 37 games from May 4-June 14 while on the 10-day Injured List with a right glute strain, a stint in which he also dealt with left wrist inflammation and symptoms from viral meningitis.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at 38 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP Carter Baumler, LHP’s Cody Bradford, Robert Garcia, and Jordan Montgomery, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
