RHP Alex Hoppe optioned to Triple-A Tacoma

CLEVELAND – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the following roster moves:

  • Josh Simpson, LHP, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.
  • Alex Hoppe, RHP, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

Simpson, 28, has made 20 appearances with the Tacoma Rainiers this season, recording one save with a 2.08 ERA (5 ER, 21.2 IP). The left-hander has 24 strikeouts and 10 walks, registering 10.0 strikeouts-per-9 innings.

He made 3 appearances out of the Mariners bullpen earlier this season, posting a 7.71 ERA (2 ER, 2.1 IP) with 3 strikeouts. He was recalled from Tacoma on May 1 and optioned May 2, and also recalled on May 4 before being optioned on May 14.

Simpson was acquired by Seattle on Feb. 16 from the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations. He was drafted by the Marlins in the 32nd round of the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Columbia University (NY) and made 31 relief appearances for Miami in 2025.

Hoppe (pronounced ‘hoppy’), 27, has a 6.38 ERA (17 ER, 24.0 IP) with 26 strikeouts and 10 walks in 21 relief appearances with the Mariners this season. He began the season with Triple-A Tacoma and was recalled on April 21, pitching out of the Major League bullpen since.

The right-hander was acquired by Seattle on Nov. 18, 2025 from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league catcher Luke Heyman. Hoppe is originally from Davenport, Iowa and was selected by the Red Sox in the 6th round of the 2022 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
