Underdog Fantasy to Withdraw from New York, Agrees to $17.5 Million Settlement

The New York State Gaming Commission has reached a settlement with Underdog Fantasy, an interactive fantasy sports provider, over allegations of conducting unpermitted contests within the state.

As part of the settlement, the company will cease offering specific contest formats in New York unless they comply with the state’s statutes and regulatory framework. Previously, Underdog had been running contests through Synkt, a subsidiary with temporary permission.

“This settlement highlights the Gaming Commission’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the gaming public,” stated Commission Chair Brian O’Dwyer. “We urge fantasy sports enthusiasts to engage only with permitted or registered operators, which adhere to our robust regulations designed to protect New Yorkers.”
