Tampa Bay Lightning acquire Forward Sam O’Reilly from Edmonton Oilers

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward Sam O’Reilly from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Isaac Howard, Vice President and General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today.

O’Reilly, 19, joins the Lightning organization after an impressive season with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he tallied 28 goals and 71 points in 62 regular season games, finishing third in team scoring and second in plus/minus (+56). The Toronto native continued his standout play in the postseason, contributing seven goals and 22 points over 17 playoff games to help lead London to its second consecutive J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions.

In the 2025 Memorial Cup, O’Reilly appeared in five games, recording two goals and five points, including the primary assist on the championship-winning goal, as the Knights secured their third Memorial Cup title in franchise history.

Over the past two OHL seasons, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward compiled 48 goals and 127 points with a plus-88 rating in 130 regular season appearances, along with 12 goals and 34 points in 33 playoff contests. He also notched 11 goals on the power play during that span.

O’Reilly was selected 32nd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft.
