Sweden’s gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has released a series of updates covering enforcement actions against unlicensed operators, the conclusion of a supervisory case involving the Swedish Postcode Lottery, and a leadership transition at the agency.
Two Unlicensed Operators Banned from Swedish Market
Spelinspektionen has formally prohibited Ryker BV and Bitx Operations NV from offering gambling services to Swedish consumers. The regulator cited unauthorized access and localized offerings as grounds for the ban:
- Ryker BV operated jackbit.com, which featured Swedish-language options and was accessible via Swedish IP addresses.
- Bitx Operations NV ran playbet.io, offering payment in Swedish krona and targeting local users.
The authority reiterated that only licensed entities may legally provide gambling services in Sweden.
Postcode Lottery Case Closed, Referred to Consumer Ombudsman
Spelinspektionen has concluded its supervisory review of the Swedish Postcode Association, operator of the Swedish Postcode Lottery. The investigation stemmed from concerns raised by Konsumentverket regarding phone-based marketing practices.
While the regulator assessed potential violations of advertising laws, it ultimately found insufficient grounds to pursue enforcement. The matter has now been referred to the Secretariat of the Swedish Consumer Ombudsman (Konsumentombudsmannens Sekretariat) for further consideration.
Johan Röhr Named New Director General
Effective November 1, Johan Röhr will assume the role of Director General of Spelinspektionen, succeeding Camilla Rosenberg. Röhr previously served as the agency’s Chief Legal Officer and brings extensive institutional experience to the position.
Spelinspektionen praised Röhr’s regulatory acumen and leadership capabilities, positioning him to guide the authority through its next phase of oversight and modernization.
