RENTON, Wash. – Seattle Reign FC today announced a one-year extension for midfielder Maddie Mercado, keeping her under contract for 2026 with a player option for 2027. Immediately following her new deal, Mercado will head out on loan to Carolina Ascent FC of the Gainbridge Super League for the remainder of the 2025 season.

“Extending Maddie’s contract was a clear choice for our club,” said General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “Her energy, determination and passion raise the bar every day. This loan to Carolina Ascent FC will give her essential playing time in a challenging league, and we can’t wait to welcome her back to the Reign stronger and more experienced.”

Selected 27th overall in the 2024 NWSL Draft, Mercado inked her original Seattle deal ahead of the 2025 season. Since debuting in the NWSL, the 24-year-old has appeared in 16 regular-season matches (including four starts), contributing one goal and one assist. She also featured in all three games of the 2024 NWSL × Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup, recording a goal and an assist against Club Tijuana.

“I’m honored to extend my journey with the Reign and grateful for this chance to grow with Carolina Ascent FC,” Mercado said. “Playing consistently at that level will help me sharpen my skills and come back ready to make an even bigger impact for Seattle.”

A San Diego native, Mercado starred at the University of Notre Dame, starting 62 of her 94 appearances and tallying 26 goals and 12 assists over five seasons. Her accolades include Second Team All-ACC honors in 2023, Third Team All-ACC in 2022 and three All-ACC Academic Team selections.
