Pittsburgh Pirates Sign LHP Génesis Cabrera to One-Year Major League Deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Génesis Cabrera to a one-year Major League contract.

To make room on the 26-man roster, RHP Michael Darrell-Hicks has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. Additionally, RHP Hunter Stratton has been designated for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster.

Cabrera, 27, has made 15 relief appearances this season between the Mets and Cubs, posting a 6.35 ERA (17.0 IP, 12 ER) with 15 strikeouts. Most recently with the Cubs, he was designated for assignment on Saturday, outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, and elected free agency Tuesday.

The veteran lefty is expected to be active for Pittsburgh’s game tomorrow. Over parts of seven MLB seasons, Cabrera owns a career 17–14 record, five saves, and a 4.03 ERA (292.2 IP, 131 ER) with 283 strikeouts in 287 appearances (two starts). His MLB tenure includes stints with the St. Louis Cardinals (2019–23), Toronto Blue Jays (2023–24), New York Mets (2025), and Chicago Cubs (2025).
