The Pittsburgh Pirates today recalled right-handed pitcher Daulton Jefferies from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Left-handed pitcher Justin Bruihl has been optioned to Indianapolis to make room for Jefferies on the active roster.
This is Jefferies’ second stint with the Pirates this season after also being recalled as the 27th man for the team’s May 29 doubleheader at Detroit. Prior to being promoted back to the big leagues by the Pirates today, Jefferies allowed one run in 5.2 innings in his most recent start with Indianapolis on June 11 at Jacksonville.
The 28-year-old Jefferies was acquired by the Pirates from San Francisco on May 10 in exchange for minor league infielder Rodolfo Nolasco.
He made two appearances (one start) this year with San Francisco while also going a combined 2-1 with a 4.85 ERA (39.0ip/21er) in nine appearances (seven starts) between Triple-A Sacramento and Indianapolis.
Jefferies will wear uniform No. 59.
