Pittsburgh Pirates claim infielder Tristan Gray off waivers from the Oakland Athletics

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that they have claimed infielder Tristan Gray off waivers from the Athletics. The 28-year-old Gray spent most of the 2024 season between Triple-A Jacksonville and Las Vegas, where he batted .251 (105-for-418) with 25 doubles, four triples, 19 home runs, 64 RBIs, a .322 on-base percentage, a .467 slugging percentage, and a .789 OPS over 112 games. The left-handed hitter also went 3-for-21 in eight games with Oakland this past season.

Gray was originally selected by the Pirates in the 13th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Rice University. He was traded to Tampa Bay along with pitcher Daniel Hudson on February 22, 2018, in exchange for outfielder Corey Dickerson. In the major leagues, Gray has hit .152 (5-for-33) with a double, home run, and one RBI in 17 games with Tampa Bay (2023), Miami (2024), and Oakland (2024).
