Phillies announce three additional Spring Training non-roster invitees

The Phillies have signed right-handed pitchers Austin Brice and Ricardo Pinto and outfielder David Dahl to minor league contracts. They will attend major league spring training as non-roster invitees.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement.

Originally selected by the Miami Marlins in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB Draft, the 6-foot-4 right-hander has posted a 5.12 ERA (96 ER, 168.2 IP) in 144 major league outings (1 start) between the Marlins (2016 and 2019), Cincinnati Reds (2017-18), Boston Red Sox (2020-21) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2022) in his career. He was born in China and raised in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The 30-year-old Pinto pitched for Dos Laredos and Mexico in the Mexican League in 2023 and went 5-5 with a 4.61 ERA (42 ER, 82.0 IP), 21 walks and 59 strikeouts. He was named Most Valuable Player of the 2024 Caribbean Series after going 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA (ER, 10.2 IP), three walks and 14 strikeouts in two starts for Venezuela in the tournament. The 6-foot righty was previously signed by Philadelphia as an amateur free agent in 2011 and was selected as the Paul Owens Award winner as the top pitcher in the Phillies system in 2015. He made 25 appearances with Philadelphia in 2017 and two appearances with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2019.

Dahl, 29, spent most of last season playing at the triple-A level in the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations, slashing .278/.351/.466 (.818 OPS) with 44 runs, 26 doubles, nine home runs, 49 RBI and 31 walks in 313 plate appearances. Over 71 triple-A games, he played all three outfield positions and batted .296 (61-206) against right-handed pitching. The Birmingham, Ala., native was named a National League All-Star in 2019 with the Colorado Rockies and has a career slash line of .271/.317/.463 (.780 OPS) in 331 major league games between the Rockies (2016; 2018-20), Texas Rangers (2021) and Padres (2023).
