NEW YORK – New York City FC announced today the transfer of defender Birk Risa back to Norwegian side Molde FK.
Risa joined NYCFC in the summer of 2023 and made 62 total appearances across Major League Soccer, the Leagues Cup, and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, contributing one assist during his tenure in the Bronx.
“From the moment he arrived, Birk was a consummate professional and a beloved member of our community,” said Sporting Director David Lee. “We fully support his decision to return home and prioritize his family. This move also gives us roster flexibility as we look to strengthen the squad for the second half of the season.”
Risa returns to Molde FK, where he previously made 95 appearances, scoring three goals and adding six assists, while helping the club to domestic league and cup titles.
“Representing New York City and NYCFC has been an unforgettable experience,” said Birk Risa. “I’m grateful for the support, the friendships, and the fans who welcomed me. I’ll be following the team closely and wishing everyone great success.”
NYCFC extends its best wishes to Birk Risa as he begins the next chapter of his professional journey in Norway.
