CANUCKS, FLYERS MEET ON FOUR-GAME MONDAY

The Canucks will make their lone visit to Philadelphia to meet the Flyers on Prime Monday Night Hockey as part of a four-game Monday – the second-last slate of games before the NHL takes a three-day holiday break. The contest will feature Vancouver put a four-game win streak on the line and Rick Tocchet will face his former team for the first time.

* The Canucks can extend their winning streak to five games for the first time since 2023-24 – Vancouver’s run started after their blockbuster trade which saw the club acquire Liam Ohgren, Zeev Buium and Marco Rossi. Those three players have combined for 3-3—6 over their first four games with Vancouver, led by Ohgren who has 2-1—3 after having gone without a point through his first 18 games of 2025-26.

* Tocchet spent the past three seasons with the Canucks, where he won the Jack Adams Award in 2023-24 and helped lead the franchise to the second round of the playoffs for only the second time since 2011-12. Under Tocchet, the Flyers currently hold the first Wild Card seed in the Eastern Conference and will aim to return to the postseason for the first time since 2020.

NEW YORK – Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch has been fined $35,000 for directing inappropriate language toward game officials and failing to leave the court in a timely manner following his ejection, it was announced today by James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.

The incident, for which Finch was assessed two technical fouls and ejected, occurred with 6:19 remaining in the first quarter of the Timberwolves’ 112-107 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Dec. 19 at Target Center.

NHL Network™ today announced it will provide exclusive coverage of the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, marking the 50th edition of the storied international tournament, along with extensive coverage of the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic®. Operating as the U.S. TV home for the 18th consecutive year, NHL Network will air live game broadcasts of the World Junior Championship plus previews, highlights, interviews and analysis of the tournament from St. Paul, Minnesota on the NHL Network flagship studio show NHL Tonight ™.

Often serving as a preview of the NHL’s next generation of stars, the World Junior Championship has launched the careers of dozens of current NHL captains, All-Stars and award winners. The 2026 tournament returns to United States ice for the first time since 2018 and marks the seventh time the U.S. has hosted the event, bringing 10 of the world’s top under-20 national teams together in one of hockey’s most anticipated annual showcases.

Coverage will begin on Friday, December 26 with four live game telecasts on NHL Network: Slovakia vs. Sweden at 1 p.m. ET, followed by Finland vs. Denmark at 3:30 p.m. ET, then USA vs. Germany at 6 p.m. ET, and Canada vs. Czechia at 8:30 p.m. ET. NHL Network will preview the 2026 World Junior Championship tournament matchups and players to watch on NHL Tonight: 2026 World Junior Championship Preview on Thursday, December 25 at 6 p.m. ET. WINNIPEG, MB., – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced several coaching staff updates for the 2026 Canadian Football League season. Tommy Condell has been appointed the club’s new offensive coordinator, while longtime defensive lineman Jake Thomas will transition from his playing career into the role of defensive line coach, succeeding the retiring Darrell Patterson. In addition, Jason Hogan will return as running backs coach, resuming a position he previously held from 2022–2024.

Condell arrives in Winnipeg after two seasons as offensive coordinator with the Ottawa Redblacks and brings 15 years of CFL coaching experience across five organizations. His CFL journey began with the Blue Bombers in 1997 as Jeff Reinebold’s special teams coordinator, followed by roles with the Ottawa Renegades (2004–05), Saskatchewan Roughriders (2006), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2014–15; 2020–23), Toronto Argonauts (2017–18) and the Redblacks (2024–25).

He contributed to Toronto’s 2017 Grey Cup championship staff and has served multiple stints as an offensive coordinator: with Saskatchewan in 2006, Hamilton from 2013–15 and 2021–23, Toronto in 2018, and Ottawa in 2024–25. His broader coaching background includes positions at Illinois Wesleyan (1995), the Albany Firebirds (1996), Hamilton Continentals (1996), McNeese State (1998–99), Stephen F. Austin (2000), Louisiana-Monroe (2001–03), Southeastern Louisiana (2007–09) and Cornell (2010–12).

Under Condell’s direction, the Redblacks finished eighth in offensive points in 2025 despite starting four quarterbacks while Dru Brown missed nine games. NEW YORK – A look at seven statistical highlights from games played during the 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET windows on Sunday, December 21, the 16th week of the 2025 season.

  • Philadelphia clinched the NFC East for the second consecutive season after defeating the Commanders, 29-18, on Saturday and became the first NFC East team to win the division in back-to-back seasons in 21 years (Philadelphia Eagles, 2001-04).

    Seattle     clinched their first playoff spot since 2022 after defeating the Los Angeles Rams, 38-37, in overtime in Week 16.

    With Detroit’s Week 16 loss, Chicago – after defeating Green Bay, 22-16, in overtime – clinched their first playoff spot since 2020, and San Francisco clinched their fourth playoff berth in the past five years.

    New England     can clinch a playoff berth with a win or tie against Baltimore on Sunday Night Football or an Indianapolis loss or tie against San Francisco on Monday Night Football.

    Buffalo    , Jacksonville and the Los Angeles Chargers can each clinch a playoff berth in Week 16 should San Francisco defeat Indianapolis on Monday.

    Three teams – Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle – clinched a playoff spot in Week 16 after missing the postseason last year. Since 1990 – a streak of 35 consecutive seasons (1990-2024) – at least four teams every season have qualified for the playoffs after failing to make the postseason the year before.

    With two games remaining in Week 16, eight games have been decided by seven-or-fewer points and three teams overcame deficits of 10-or-more points to win, including Seattle (16 points), Atlanta (10 points) and Chicago (10 points).

    With Buffalo’s 23-20 win at Cleveland in Week 16, quarterback Josh Allen recorded his 87th career regular season win, surpassing Tom Brady (86 regular season wins) and Russell Wilson (86) for the second-most regular season wins by a quarterback in his first eight seasons in NFL history. Only Patrick Mahomes (89 regular season wins) has more.

    Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett had a half sack in Week 16 and leads the league with 22 sacks, tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Jared Allen (22 sacks in 2011 with Minnesota), as well as Mark Gastineau (22 in 1984 with the New York Jets) and Justin Houston (22 in 2014 with Kansas City) for the third-most sacks in a single season since 1982, when the individual sack became an official statistic. Only Michael Strahan (22.5 in 2001 with the New York Giants) and T.J. Watt (22.5 in 2021 with Pittsburgh) have more.
  • Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin – who is 53 years old – recorded his 200th career win (including the playoffs) in Week 16, since being hired as the Steelers head coach in 2007. With the victory, the Steelers improved to 9-6 this season and secured their 22nd consecutive season with a .500-or-better record, surpassing the Dallas Cowboys (21 consecutive seasons from 1965-85) for the longest such streak in NFL history.

    Including the playoffs, Tomlin is the 11th head coach all-time with 200 career wins and the third-youngest head coach to reach 200 in NFL history. Only Pro Football Hall of Famers Don Shula (51 years and 308 days old) and Curly Lambeau (48 years and 222 days old) reached the mark at a younger age.

    Tomlin, who has 19 career seasons with a .500-or-better record, ties Marty Schottenheimer (19 seasons) for the fourth-most seasons with a .500-or-better record by a head coach since 1970, trailing only Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula (24), Andy Reid (23) and Bill Belichick (21).
  • Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence passed for 279 yards and three touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown in the Jaguars’ 34-20 victory at Denver.

    Lawrence, who had 330 passing yards, five touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown in Week 15, is the third player in NFL history with at least 275 passing yards, three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown in consecutive games, joining Joe Burrow (2022) and Kyler Murray (2020 and 2021).
  • Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow passed for 309 yards and four touchdowns for a 146.5 rating in his 75th career game in the Bengals’ 45-21 win at Miami.

    Burrow, who has 20,269 passing yards in his first 75 career games, joins Patrick Mahomes (22,799 passing yards), Matthew Stafford (21,254), Andrew Luck (20,569) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino (20,293) as the only players in NFL history with at least 20,000 passing yards in his first 75 career games.

    Burrow has 152 touchdown passes through 75 career games and is the third player in NFL history with at least 150 touchdown passes in his first 75 career games, joining Patrick Mahomes (181 touchdown passes) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino (173).

    Burrow, who has at least four touchdown passes in nine games since entering the NFL in 2020, surpassed Jeff Garcia (eight games), Andrew Luck (eight) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas (eight) for the fifth-most such games in a player’s first six seasons in NFL history. Only Patrick Mahomes (16 games) and Josh Allen (10) as well as Pro Football Hall of Famers Dan Marino (16) and Brett Favre (10) have more.

    Burrow has 27 career games with at least 300 passing yards, tied with Matthew Stafford (27 games) and Jameis Winston (27) for the fifth-most games with at least 300 passing yards in a player’s first six seasons in NFL history. Only Patrick Mahomes (41 games) and Justin Herbert (31, in sixth season) as well as Pro Football Hall of Famers Dan Marino (32) and Kurt Warner (30) have more.
  • Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert passed for 300 yards and two touchdowns for a 132.8 rating and rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers’ 34-17 win at Dallas.

    Herbert, who passed for at least 300 yards in 31 games since entering the NFL in 2020, surpassed Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner (30 games) for the third-most such games in a player’s first six seasons in NFL history. Only Patrick Mahomes (41 games) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino (32) have more.

    Per Next Gen Stats, Herbert – who was blitzed on a season-high 54.5 percent of his drop backs in Week 16 – completed nine of his 11 passes attempts under pressure for 108 yards and a touchdown without being sacked.

  • Atlanta running back Bijan Robinson had 168 scrimmage yards (92 receiving, 76 rushing) and a touchdown reception in the Falcons’ 26-19 victory at Arizona.

    Robinson, who is 23 years old, has 5,376 career scrimmage yards, surpassing Clinton Portis (5,327 scrimmage yards) for the third-most scrimmage yards by a player under the age of 24 in NFL history. Only Christian McCaffrey (5,443 scrimmage yards) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders (5,391) have more.

    Robinson is the fifth player since 2000 with at least 75 rushing yards and 75 receiving yards in consecutive games, joining Le’Veon Bell (2017), Mewelde Moore (2004), Priest Holmes (2001) and Charlie Garner (2000).

    Additionally, Robinson is the fourth player since 2000 with at least 75 rushing yards and 75 receiving yards in three games within a single season, joining Ezekiel Elliott (2018), Priest Holmes (2001 and 2002) and Christian McCaffrey (2018 and 2019).
  • Minnesota wide receiver Justin Jefferson had six receptions for 85 yards in the Vikings’ 16-13 victory at the New York Giants.

      Gibbs has 48 career touchdowns and surpassed Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders (47 touchdowns) for the most touchdowns by a player under the age of 24 all-time and the most touchdowns by a player in his first three seasons in NFL history.

      Gibbs has 30 career games with a touchdown and joined Pro Football Hall of Famers Barry Sanders (31 games), Randy Moss (31) and Gale Sayers (30) as well as Maurice Jones-Drew (30) as the only players in NFL history with at least 30 games in their first three seasons with a touchdown.
    • Denver quarterback Bo Nix passed for 352 yards and a touchdown against Jacksonville in Week 16.

      Nix, who has 724 completions since entering the league last year, is the fourth player in NFL history with at least 700 completions in his first two seasons, joining Justin Herbert (839 completions), Trevor Lawrence (746) and Kyler Murray (724).

      Nix has 53 career touchdown passes, tied with Derek Carr (53 touchdown passes) for the third-most touchdown passes by a player in their first two seasons in NFL history. Only Justin Herbert (69 touchdown passes) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino (68) have more.
    • Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott passed for 244 yards and three touchdowns for a 116.5 rating while wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had six receptions for 51 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

      Prescott, who has 35,612 passing yards and 241 touchdown passes since entering the league in 2016, joins Pro Football Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Dan Marino as well as Derek Carr, Jared Goff, Patrick Mahomes (in ninth season), Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson as the only quarterbacks in NFL history with at least 35,500 passing yards and 240 touchdown passes in a player’s first 10 career seasons in NFL history.

      Prescott has 61 games with at least 240 passing yards and two touchdown passes, surpassing Matthew Stafford (60 games) for the fourth-most such games by a player in his first 10 seasons in NFL history, trailing only Patrick Mahomes (68 games, in ninth season) and Pro Football Hall of Famers Dan Marino (68) and Peyton Manning (65).

      Lamb has 67 career games with at least five receptions, the most such games by a player in his first six career seasons all-time.

      Lamb has 565 career receptions, the second-most receptions by a player in his first six seasons in NFL history, trailing only Justin Jefferson (567 receptions, in sixth season).
    • Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce ranks third in the NFL among tight ends with 803 receiving yards this season.

      Kelce, who has 803 receiving yards in 2025, joins Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice (12 consecutive seasons from 1985-96) as the only players in NFL history with at least 800 receiving yards in 12 consecutive seasons.
    • Las Vegas rookie running back Ashton Jeanty had a career-high 188 scrimmage yards (128 rushing, 60 receiving), including a 51-yard touchdown run and a 60-yard touchdown catch, at Houston.

      Jeanty is the third rookie all-time with at least 50 receptions, five rushing touchdowns and five receiving touchdowns, joining Alvin Kamara and Pro Football Hall of Famer Charley Taylor.

      Jeanty is the fourth rookie in NFL history with a 50-yard rushing touchdown and 50-yard touchdown receptions in the same game, joining Clinton Portis (Dec. 15, 2002 with Denver), Jimmy Thomas (Dec. 6, 1969 with San Francisco) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Gale Sayers (Dec. 12, 1965 with Chicago).
    • New Orleans quarterback Taysom Hill had a 38-yard touchdown pass, 42 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards in the Saints’ 29-6 victory over the New York Jets.

      Hill joins Christian McCaffrey (Dec. 17, 2018, with Carolina) as the only players since 1990 with at least 35 passing yards, 35 rushing yards and 35 receiving yards in a single game.

      Hill has 23 career games with a completed pass, rush attempt and reception, surpassing John David Crow (22 games) for the most such games in NFL history.

      Hill – who has 2,426 passing yards, 1,002 receiving yards and 2,551 rushing yards in his career – is the first player in the Super Bowl era and fourth player all-time with at least 1,000 passing yards, 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in their career, joining Bob Hoernschemeyer, George Taliaferro and Pro Football Hall of Famer Charley Trippi.
    • Cleveland rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger recorded 12 tackles and a sack against Buffalo.

Toronto Sceptres hold off the New York Sirens in 4-3 win

NEWARK, NJ (December 21, 2025) – The Toronto Sceptres got back into the win column with a 4-3 victory over the New York Sirens on Sunday afternoon at Prudential Center. Toronto’s win comes on the heels of two straight losses to Montréal, while New York has now suffered four straight regulation losses. Jesse Compher paced the Sceptres offense with a three-point performance, including the game’s opening goal at 9:19 of the first period and an empty net goal at 18:23 of the third period, which held as the game-winner. Sirens first overall pick Kristýna Kaltounková scored twice on the home side, including a first period marker at 17:37 to tie the game 1-1 and end the team’s eight period scoreless drought. After a Blayre Turnbull power play goal regained the Sceptres lead at 1:21 of the second period, Kaltounková followed suit with the first Sirens power play goal of the season at 6:17 to knot the score 2-2. Emma Maltais put the Sceptres ahead 3-2 at 7:36 of the middle frame. The Sirens battled back in the third period with Taylor Girard scoring with an extra attacker at 18:44 to cut the deficit to 4-3. Elaine Chuli stood tall to pick up her second win as a Sceptre in as many starts, turning aside a season-high 37 of 40 shots faced. Kayle Osborne stopped 23 of 26 in the loss. Toronto returns home for a Tuesday date with Ottawa, while New York will hit the ice after Christmas when they take on Seattle next Sunday, Dec. 28 in Dallas as part of the PWHL Takeover Tour.

Toronto forward Jesse Compher on the team’s performance: “It’s exciting to get back in the win column. We have one more game before the Christmas break, so hopefully we keep this up and keep it rolling in 2026. I think Maggie (Connors) made a great play up the wall and then we had a D jump up (to lead to the first goal). Allie (Munroe) made a really good play as well. I was just lucky to be in the right spot and put it in the back of the net.”

Sceptres Head Coach Troy Ryan on the penalty kill: “I think back-to-back in our last game in Halifax against Montréal (and today against New York) we’ve killed five penalties. Over the last 10 or 11 penalties letting in one goal, it’s honestly just really simple with trying to work with good habits and get good clears when you have the opportunity. Get the odd save when you need it. I’m very happy with the kill so far.”

New York Head Coach Greg Fargo on the difference between the team’s performance between Wednesday and today’s matchup: “Honestly, there wasn’t a lot of difference between the two games. It was great to get a couple of goals, and they did as well, but I think tonight was more reflective of how we want to play — especially doing a better job of getting to the net. I thought our team was more dangerous around the blue paint, and there were stretches where we controlled the game. At the same time, we had some sloppy moments, and I’m sure they would say the same. It’s a game of margins, and I think we’re doing a lot of good things. Our group really wants to put an end to this losing streak, and they’re working extremely hard to do that. I also think the upcoming break is coming at a good time. It gives us a chance to step away, reset and refocus. We’re playing good hockey in these stretches, and we want to continue to replicate that moving forward.”

Sirens rookie forward Kristýna Kaltounková on her two-goal game and chemistry with her linemates: “Those two goals were a full line effort. On the power play goal with my line, it wasn’t just me — Filly (Sarah Fillier) took a great shot, and I was fortunate to be there to finish it. It definitely feels good to be playing on that line. Sarah is an incredibly talented hockey player. She’s smart, skilled and sees the game so well. Playing with her has been an honor, and she makes things a lot easier out there. Anne Cherkowski brings so much speed and grit, and she’s also a very smart, talented player. I think we’re building strong chemistry together. The goals are starting to come, but more importantly, we’re doing a lot of good things that reflect the way we want to play.”

Toronto has now won five straight games against New York dating back to Jan. 25. This was just the Sceptres second win at Prudential Center after going 1-0-1-1 in Newark last season.

New York outshot Toronto 40-27 and has led all seven of their games this season in shots on goal. This was their second time with 40 or more shots in a game, following 42 shots in their season opener against Ottawa on Nov. 22, and are the only team in the PWHL to reach such totals.

Jesse Compher recorded the first multi-goal game and three-point performance of her career. Her goals ended a five-game drought to open the season, after also finishing the 2024-25 campaign without scoring a goal in her last five games. The forward now leads the Sceptres with four points (2G, 2A) after ranking third on the team with nine goals last season and fourth with 18 points, producing a trio of two-point efforts.

Blayre Turnbull scored her team leading third goal of the season and first on the power play. The Sceptres captain had one goal on the advantage last year and five goals, including three unassisted markers, in 30 regular season games overall. Her third goal in 2024-25 came in her 11th contest.

Emma Maltais scored her first goal and third point of the season to tie for second on the Sceptres. The forward is a third of the way to her point total (4G, 5A) during the 2024-25 campaign, reaching three points in her tenth game last season.

Kristýna Kaltounková became the first PWHL rookie this season to record a two-goal game and is tied for the rookie lead in goals with three. The Sirens first overall pick had seven multi-goal games during her final season at Colgate University in 2024-25. Her two goals came on five shots on goal, a figure she’s reached four times this season, giving her 27 shots on goal in total to lead all rookies.

Taylor Girard scored her team leading fourth goal of the season on a career-high nine shots on goal, finding the back of the net for the first time since her hat trick performance in the Sirens season opener where she had seven shots on goal in Ottawa. The four goals ties her inaugural season total with Boston in 23 games.

Elaine Chuli has started all three PWHL seasons with at least two straight wins. Her 37 saves are tied for her second most in a game in her career, matching Jan. 30, 2025 in a 4-3 shootout win over Toronto as a member of Montréal, and 45 saves on Jan. 24, 2024 in a 2-1 win over Minnesota.

Sarah Fillier snapped a three-game pointless streak with a primary helper on Kaltounková’s first goal. The 2025 Rookie of the Year and co-scoring leader tied for the league lead with 16 assists in 30 games last season.

Anne Cherkowski recorded her third assist of the season, with the Sirens second-round pick ending the game tied for third among rookies in the category.

Casey O’Brien picked up her second assist of the season and first since the third overall pick made her Prudential Center debut in the Sirens home opener on Nov. 29.

Maja Nylén Persson registered her first assist of the season and first point since scoring shorthanded in the Sirens season opener. The Swedish defender also had two points (2A) through her first seven games as a rookie last season.

Maddi Wheeler picked up her fourth assist of the season and ended the game tied for the lead in helpers among rookies. All four of her assists have set up Girard goals.

Allie Munroe picked up her second assist of the season, with the defender already surpassing her assist total and matching her point total in 30 games for the Sceptres (1G, 1A) in 2024-25.

Maggie Connors recorded her first point of the season with a secondary helper on Compher’s first goal, the forward’s first assist in 43 games since Mar. 17, 2024. Last season, the Sceptres forward had two goals in 30 games, with the first goal scored in her tenth game.

Daryl Watts collected her second assist and third point of the season, setting up the Maltais goal. The Sceptres’ 2024-25 leading scorer had 27 points, including 15 assists, in 30 games last season.

Claire Dalton contributed her second assist of the season, with both helpers setting up empty net goals.

Kayle Osborne has started all seven Sirens games this season after appearing in 10 games as a rookie during the 2024-25 campaign.

Ella Shelton played her first game at Prudential Center as a member of the Sceptres following two seasons with New York. The defender led all skaters with a time on ice of 25:26.

Renata Fast was a scratch for the Sceptres today with a lower-body injury. It’s the second time this season the alternate captain has been missing from the blue line after an upper-body injury kept her out of the lineup in the season opener.

The Sirens are the last PWHL team to score a power play goal, snapping an 0/17 drought to open the season.
