The Australian state of Victoria has upheld a penalty against online sportsbook OkeBet after finding the operator breached key harm‑minimisation rules by marketing to self‑excluded individuals and offering prohibited inducements. Regulators emphasized that self‑exclusion must be respected and that at‑risk players deserve robust protections.
VCAT Confirms VGCCC’s Enforcement Action
The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) announced that the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) has affirmed its earlier ruling that OkeBet violated state gambling laws.
The VGCCC’s investigation found that OkeBet had:
Sent promotional gambling material to self‑excluded individuals
Offered prohibited inducements to community sporting clubs
Circulated marketing materials in local sports venues
Invited self‑excluded players to open accounts or resume gambling
Under Victorian law, wagering operators are strictly prohibited from encouraging customers to open betting accounts through inducements such as gambling credit, vouchers, rewards, or other benefits. They are also barred from contacting self‑excluded individuals with promotions of any kind.
The breaches came to light in 2024, when the VGCCC received reports that some self‑excluded individuals who received OkeBet’s marketing suffered harm. The regulator took disciplinary action in September 2024, which OkeBet later appealed—an appeal VCAT has now dismissed.
As a result, OkeBet has been censured and ordered to pay a AUD 100,000 penalty.
VGCCC: Self‑Exclusion Must Be Respected
VGCCC CEO Suzy Neilan welcomed the Tribunal’s decision, stressing that operators must uphold Victoria’s harm‑minimisation framework.
“Local footy and netball clubs are often the heart of their communities, places where people come together to support one another. They should not be used as vehicles to promote gambling, particularly where those promotions include inducements that are prohibited by law,” Neilan said.
She added that Australians must be able to rely on self‑exclusion and other harm‑prevention tools, and that operators have a responsibility to ensure their products and marketing comply with Victorian law.
Broader Enforcement Continues
The ruling comes amid a broader compliance push in Victoria. In recent months, the VGCCC has penalized a dozen gaming venues for various violations, including allowing gambling outside permitted trading hours and other regulatory breaches.
Yonkers Raceway has officially launched its 127th racing season, unveiling a 2026 calendar that features 236 race days—the most of any racetrack in the United States. Fans can enjoy live harness racing five nights a week at the iconic half‑mile oval, where more than 80 horses compete under the lights each evening.
Season Highlights
The 2026 program includes the opening rounds of the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series and the MGM Borgata Pacing Series, culminating in the Borgata Final on Friday, May 8. The prestigious MGM Yonkers Trot returns on Friday, June 26, followed by the season’s marquee event: the MGM International Trot and New York Sire Stakes Day of Champions on Saturday, September 12. With over $50 million in purses scheduled for the year, Yonkers Raceway continues to lead the nation in purse distribution.
New Features for 2026
This season introduces two key changes designed to enhance the racing product:
Earlier Saturday post time of 3:30 p.m.
A new rule prohibiting 30‑second second quarters, aimed at improving race flow and competitiveness.
A Venue Steeped in History
Since opening in 1899 as Empire City Racetrack, Yonkers Raceway has welcomed generations of notable visitors—from Frank Sinatra and Ed Sullivan to Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, and sports legends like Mickey Mantle. The track even hosted the famed thoroughbred Seabiscuit, who won the Scarsdale Handicap here during the venue’s brief foray into thoroughbred racing in the 1930s.
More recently, the Raceway has drawn modern stars such as former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira, who defeated Hall of Fame driver Tim Tetrick in an exhibition race, and three‑time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić, a devoted harness racing fan who made a surprise visit.
Commitment to Excellence
“Across generations, fans have come to Yonkers Raceway for world‑class harness racing and the thrill of elite competition,” said Jonathan “Joe” Frasure Jr., race secretary at Yonkers Raceway at Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts. “By offering the richest purses in the country, we continue to attract top drivers, trainers, and owners. Our new in‑house rule and earlier Saturday post time reflect our ongoing commitment to delivering a stronger racing product for participants and fans alike.”
Modernization and Investment
Since MGM Resorts acquired Empire City Casino and Yonkers Raceway in 2019, the property has undergone more than $1 million in upgrades, including:
Resurfacing the track with 6,000+ tons of recycled material
Enhancements to the horse paddock
Installation of state‑of‑the‑art LED lighting
A new multi‑display LED infield tote board to elevate the race‑day experience
With its blend of history, investment, and top‑tier racing, Yonkers Raceway enters its 127th season as one of the sport’s premier destinations.

This game could hinge on special teams and defensive play, with potential for a low-scoring battle given recent trends and goaltender matchups.

Player Matchups
This Pacific clash highlights youth vs. experience, with San Jose’s emerging stars challenging Vancouver’s remaining core amid injuries.
Macklin Celebrini (Sharks F) vs. Elias Pettersson (Canucks F): Celebrini, fresh off a two-goal performance, brings speed and scoring (noted in recent games) against Pettersson’s playmaking (13 goals, 18 assists). This could decide offensive control.
Will Smith (Sharks F) vs. Quinn Hughes (Canucks D): Smith’s creativity on the wing tests Hughes’ puck-moving ability; Hughes must contain San Jose’s rushes without full defensive support.
Fabian Zetterlund (Sharks F) vs. J.T. Miller (Canucks C): Physical centers; Zetterlund’s grit vs. Miller’s leadership in faceoffs and two-way play.
Goaltending: Yaroslav Askarov (Sharks) vs. Arturs Silovs (Canucks): Askarov has been reliable in wins; Silovs steps in with Demko out, facing pressure from Sharks’ shots.
Key X-Factor: Tyler Toffoli (Sharks F) could exploit Vancouver’s weakened blue line with his veteran scoring touch.

The Dallas Stars (29-14-9) visit the St. Louis Blues (19-24-9) in a Central Division clash as the Stars aim to extend their recent dominance over the struggling Blues. Dallas sits third in the division with 67 points, riding a wave of solid goaltending and offensive depth, while St. Louis languishes in seventh with 47 points, hampered by injuries and inconsistent play. This rematch follows Dallas’ 3-2 home win over the Blues just days ago on January 23, setting up potential for another tight, low-scoring affair amid both teams’ defensive focuses.
Venue Location
The game will be played at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. This 18,096-capacity arena has been the Blues’ home since 1994 and is renowned for its electric atmosphere during divisional games.
Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST (7:00 PM CST / 5:00 PM PST).
Recent Team Forms
The Stars have been resilient, posting a 5-4-1 record in their last 10 games with a +3 goal differential. They’ve won three of their last five, including the recent 3-2 victory over St. Louis, but road inconsistencies persist. Dallas averages 2.9 goals per game in this span while allowing 2.6, bolstered by Jake Oettinger’s .920 save percentage in recent outings.
The Blues are mired in a slump, going 3-6-1 in their last 10 with a -8 goal differential and a four-game losing streak snapped only by sporadic wins. Their offense has stalled at 2.5 goals per game, while conceding 3.3, exacerbated by key absences. Home form offers some hope (10-12-4 at Enterprise Center), but defensive lapses have been costly.

Overall: Three key players out or questionable, impacting defensive mobility but core offense remains healthy.
St. Louis Blues:
Robert Thomas (C, lower body/ankle): On IR since January 15; re-evaluated in two weeks, likely missing this game as team’s leading scorer (11 goals, 22 assists).
Oskar Sundqvist (C, ankle/laceration): On IR but day-to-day; possible return for January 27 after recent placement.
Dylan Holloway (LW): Day-to-day, status uncertain after January 25 issue.
Overall: Four players on the report, severely depleting forward lines and forcing reliance on depth players.
Key
Player Matchups
This divisional rivalry highlights physical and skill-based battles, with Dallas’ speed testing St. Louis’ depleted lineup.
Jason Robertson (Stars F) vs. Colton Parayko (Blues D): Robertson, with 30 goals including the recent game-winner against St. Louis, uses his shot and vision to exploit gaps. Parayko’s size and reach will aim to neutralize him, but Blues’ injuries could leave vulnerabilities.
Roope Hintz (Stars C) vs. Brayden Schenn (Blues C): A two-way center duel. Hintz (25 points in last 20 games) drives Dallas’ transition, while Schenn (veteran leadership, physical play) anchors St. Louis’ middle but faces fatigue without Thomas.
Matt Duchene (Stars F) vs. Jordan Kyrou (Blues F): Speedy wingers who can turn games with breakaways. Duchene’s consistency vs. Kyrou’s flair, especially on power plays where Dallas ranks top-10.
Goaltending: Jake Oettinger (Stars) vs. Jordan Binnington (Blues): Oettinger (.915 SV%) has been clutch, winning the last matchup. Binnington (.905 SV%) needs a bounce-back amid Blues’ defensive woes.
Key X-Factor: Miro Heiskanen (Stars D) could dominate puck possession against a shorthanded Blues forward group, logging heavy minutes.
Series History
Historically, the Blues lead the all-time series 141-123-43-3 in 310 meetings (Blues 52.3% win rate).

Injury Report
Both teams are dealing with key absences, particularly on defense, which could lead to more open play.
Winnipeg Jets:
Neal Pionk (D, lower body): Week-to-week, placed on IR retroactive to mid-January. Expected to miss this game, a big blow to the blue line.
Colin Miller (D, knee): On IR, expected to be out until at least late January.
Haydn Fleury (D, broken nose/bruised back): Recently returned after a scary injury in early January but may still be limited.
Overall: Three players listed, thinning the defense and forcing recalls like Elias Salomonsson.
New Jersey Devils:
Luke Hughes (D): Out with an undisclosed injury since January 21.
Stefan Noesen (F, knee): Out following surgery, absent from practice in early January.
Jack Hughes (F, shoulder): On long-term IR, not expected back until March 3. A massive loss for offensive creativity.

Player Matchups
This game features intriguing battles, especially with injuries forcing lineup adjustments.
Kyle Connor (Jets F) vs. Dougie Hamilton (Devils D): Connor, with 25 goals this season, thrives on speed and sniping. Hamilton, a puck-moving defenseman, will need to contain him on rushes, but Devils’ blue-line injuries could expose gaps.
Mark Scheifele (Jets C) vs. Nico Hischier (Devils C): A center showdown. Scheifele (18 goals, 40 points) is Winnipeg’s playmaker, while Hischier (20 goals, strong two-way play) anchors New Jersey’s top line. Faceoff wins (Hischier at 54%) could dictate possession.
Nikolaj Ehlers (Jets F) vs. Jesper Bratt (Devils F): Wingers known for creativity. Ehlers’ speed vs. Bratt’s elusiveness could produce highlight-reel moments, especially on power plays.
Goaltending: Connor Hellebuyck (Jets) vs. Jacob Markstrom (Devils): Hellebuyck (.910 SV%) has been steady but overworked due to defensive issues. Markstrom (.915 SV%) benefits from home ice but faces pressure without full defensive support.
Key X-Factor: Timo Meier (Devils F) could exploit Jets’ weakened D with his physicality and shooting (22 goals).
Series History
The Devils hold a slight historical edge in 74 meetings: 35-31-3-5 (49.3% win rate for New Jersey). However, Winnipeg has won the last three encounters, including a 4-2 victory in their most recent matchup last season.
Over the last 10 games, the series is split 5-5, with an average of 5.8 total goals, trending toward overs.
At Prudential Center, Devils are 18-17-2-3 against the Jets.

This Western vs. Eastern Conference interconference matchup sees the Los Angeles Kings, a solid but inconsistent Pacific Division team, travel to face the surging Detroit Red Wings, who boast one of the Eastern Conference’s top records and a strong home-ice advantage. Detroit’s high-powered offense and depth meet LA’s structured defense and goaltending in what could be a competitive, goal-filled affair at Little Caesars Arena.
Event Details
Venue: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET (4:00 PM PT)
Broadcast/Streaming: ESPN+, FDS Detroit (local), FDS West (local LA), NHL Power Play
Injury Report
Los Angeles Kings: No major new injuries dominate reports leading into the game. Earlier season updates included Anze Kopitar (lower-body, day-to-day in early Jan) and Joel Armia (upper-body), but core lineup (e.g., Anze Kopitar if cleared, Adrian Kempe, Quinton Byfield) appears available. Goaltender Anton Forsberg expected in net. Depth intact for road challenge.
Detroit Red Wings: Significant blow to blue line.
Simon Edvinsson (D): Out (lower-body injury; expected out until after Olympic break, missing at least next 5 games including this one).
Other notes: Patrick Kane had earlier absences (9 and 5 games), but no new major reports. Stars like Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, and goaltender John Gibson available. Detroit leans on depth defensemen to fill Edvinsson’s minutes.
Key Player Matchups
Top Lines: Detroit’s Dylan Larkin / Alex DeBrincat / Patrick Kane (high-octane scoring, Larkin center of offense) vs. Kings’ Anze Kopitar / Adrian Kempe / Quinton Byfield (veteran savvy and speed). Detroit’s line edges in recent production.
Defense: Kings’ Drew Doughty / Mikey Anderson (shutdown pair, strong PK) vs. Red Wings’ depleted blue line without Edvinsson (Moritz Seider leads). LA could exploit transition if Detroit’s D pressured.
Goaltending: LA’s Anton Forsberg (solid .905+ SV% career, recent starts) vs. Detroit’s John Gibson (experienced, but team save % ~.895). Slight edge to Detroit’s offense pressuring Forsberg.
Key X-Factor: Detroit’s home dominance and power play (top-5, 24.7% efficiency) vs. Kings’ road resilience (13-6-6 away) and penalty kill. If LA forces turnovers, they stay competitive; Detroit thrives scoring 3+ goals.
Recent Team Form
Kings: Steady but streaky around .500. Recent shots high (1,391 attempted, 9.4% shooting), but defense allows moderate goals (save % .899). Road form respectable, but inconsistency in finishing.
Red Wings: Hot with 32-16-5 record. Recent 5-1 win over Jets (strong shooting 10.91%, 165 goals scored). Offense explosive (high even-strength and PP goals), defense solid despite Edvinsson absence. Home form elite (18-8-1).
Series History All-time competitive, with recent edges varying. Kings hold some recent advantages in matchups, but Detroit strong at home historically. Games often see goals (combined high in trends); last meetings feature tight contests or high-scoring outputs. This is a rare interconference clash this season.
Betting Trends Red Wings cover as home favorites; Kings mixed ATS on road. Total trends OVER in Detroit’s high-scoring games (many over 6.5); Kings games moderate. Sharp action on Detroit side given Edvinsson loss mitigated by depth.
