Minnesota Wild Agrees to Terms with Defenseman Jon Lizotte on a One-Year, Two-Way Contract

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has agreed to terms with defenseman Jon Lizotte on a one-year, two-way contract ($750,000/$175,000).

 

Lizotte, 26 (11/10/94), collected nine points (3-6=9) and 23 penalty minutes (PIM) in 32 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2020-21 season. The 6-foot, 210-pound native of Grand Forks, N.D., recorded a season-high three-game point streak (3a) from Feb. 11-20, registered seven points (2-5=7) in the first nine contests of the season and netted his first career shorthanded goal April 16 vs. Binghamton. The left-shot defenseman owns 28 points (4-24=28), 35 PIM and 118 shots on goal in 94 career AHL games with the Penguins (2018-21).

 

Lizotte skated in four seasons with St. Cloud State University of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and recorded 46 points (10-36=46) and 93 PIM in 147 games (2015-19). He served as an alternate captain during his last two seasons and was named to the All-NCHC Academic team in all four years. He helped the Huskies win the 2016 NCHC Championship and to earn NCHC’s regular season titles in back-to-back seasons (2017-18 and 2018-19).

 

He graduated from Red River High School in Grand Forks, N.D., and served as team captain to lead the Roughriders to the 2013 North Dakota High School Hockey State Championship. He skated in two seasons with Minot of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where he served as captain of the Minotauros in his second season and collected 59 points (20-39=59) in 116 games (2013-15).

Alternate captain posted 13 points in 44 NHL games last season

 

RALEIGH, NC – Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Jordan Martinook on a three-year contract. The deal will pay Martinook an average annual value (AAV) of $1.8 million.

 

“Jordan has played a tremendous part in helping to change the culture of our organization over the past three years,” said Waddell. “He’s an asset to our team and our community, and we’re a tougher team to play against with him on the ice.”

 

Martinook, 29, recorded 13 points (4g, 9a) in 44 games during the regular season and added three assists in 11 playoff games with the Hurricanes in 2020-21. The 6’1″, 204-pound forward ranked fifth on the team with 90 hits last season and ranks second on the team in hits since 2018-19. Martinook was also named an alternate captain prior to the start of the 2019-20 season. The Brandon, Man., native has registered 51 points (20g, 31a) in 171 games with Carolina during the regular season and tallied 10 points (2g, 8a) in 29 playoff games since 2018-19. Originally drafted by Arizona in the second round, 58th overall, of the 2012 NHL Draft, Martinook was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Coyotes on May 3, 2018, with a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft (Luke Henman) in exchange for Marcus Kruger and a third-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft (Ty Emberson).

Canucks Sign Defenceman Tucker Poolman to a four-year contract

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed defenceman Tucker Poolman to a four-year contract with an annual average salary of $2.5 million.

 

Poolman, 28, has played the past four seasons in the Jets organization with both Winnipeg and the Manitoba Moose of the AHL. He made his NHL debut for the Jets in 2017.18 and recorded two points (1-1-2) in 24 games before appearing in a pair of playoff games. Last season, Poolman averaged a career-high of 18:18 TOI, including 1:19 on the penalty kill. Poolman has appeared in 120 career NHL games collecting 19 points (4-14-19) and 26 penalty minutes and 14 playoff games recording two points (1-1-2) and two penalty minutes.

 

The 6’4″, 215-pound defenceman spent two seasons with the Manitoba Moose accumulating 35 points (6-29-35) through 60 games played. Poolman was selected as the Manitoba Moose defenceman of the year in the 2018.19 season.

 

The East Grand Forks, Minnesota native was originally drafted 127th overall, by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

RALEIGH, N.C. – Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Antti Raanta on a two-year contract. The deal will pay Raanta an average-annual value (AAV) of $2 million per season through 2022-23.

 

“Antti is an established goaltender who has put up strong numbers in his career,” said Waddell. “We’re excited to add a veteran presence to our group.”

 

Raanta, 32, earned a 5-5-2 record, 3.36 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in 12 appearances for the Arizona Coyotes last season. In four seasons with Arizona from 2017-21, he posted a 46-42-11 record, 2.57 goals-against average, .921 save percentage and five shutouts. Raanta owns a career record of 93-65-20 with a 2.46 goals-against average, .919 save percentage and 13 shutouts in 198 career NHL games with the Coyotes, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. The 6’0″, 198-pound netminder ranks sixth in save percentage and ninth in goals-against average among active NHL goalies with at least 150 career starts. Raanta is a former teammate of Teuvo Teravainen (Chicago, 2013-15), Jesper Fast and Brady Skjei (New York, 2015-17) and Jordan Martinook (Arizona, 2017-18). The Rauma, Finland, native represented his home country at the 2013 IIHF World Championship, registering a 4-3-0 record, 2.09 goals-against average and .928 save percentage in seven games at the tournament.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed forward Dominic Turgeon to a one-year, two-way contract ($750,000/$155,000).

 

Turgeon, 25 (2/25/96), collected 13 points (6-7=13) in 31 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2020-21 season. The 6-foot-2, 199-pound native of Pointe-Claire, Quebec, recorded a season-high five shots Feb. 13 at Cleveland and a season-high three-game point streak (1-3=4) from March 20-27. The left-shot forward owns 106 points (42-64=106), seven game-winning goals (GWG), 81 PIM and 458 shots on goal in 306 career AHL games with the Griffins (2016-21). He has five points (2-3=5) and 28 shots in 22 AHL playoff contests (2017, 2019).

 

Turgeon was selected by Detroit in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut Jan. 14, 2018 at Chicago and has skated in nine career NHL games in parts of two seasons with the Red Wings (2017-19). Dominic is the son of former NHL forward, Pierre Turgeon, who skated in 1,294 NHL games in 19 seasons with Buffalo, New York Islanders, Montreal, St. Louis, Dallas and Colorado (1987-2007).

 

Turgeon collected 152 points (67-85=152), a plus-37 rating, 91 PIM, 17 power-play goals (PPG), five shorthanded goals and eight GWG in 259 career games with Portland of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in five seasons (2011-16). He led the Winterhawks in goals (36), PPG (12), SHG (3), GWG (4) and points (70) in his final season (2015-16). The forward registered 18 points (10-8=18) in 45 postseason contests with Portland (2013-2016).

Canucks Sign Dowling, Hunt & Keeper to One-Way Deals

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed Justin Dowling, Brad Hunt and Brady Keeper to one-way contracts.

 

Justin Dowling has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with an AAV of $750,000. Dowling, 30, played in 27 games last season for the Dallas Stars, recording five points (1-4-5). The 5’10”, 180-pound forward has played in 76 career NHL games with Dallas, collecting 14 points (4-10-14), and 15 playoff games, including games five and six of the 2020 Stanley Cup Finals versus Tampa Bay.

 

A native of Calgary Alberta, Dowling was an undrafted free agent and signed with Dallas on March 26, 2014. He had 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 14 playoff games to help Texas win the Calder Cup in 2014. He was named captain Nov. 14, 2018 and led Texas with 40 assists in 62 games in 2018-19.

 

Dowling has played 438 games in the AHL, including 408 with the Texas Stars and 30 with the Abbotsford Heat where he recorded 304 points (99-205-304).

 

Brad Hunt has agreed to terms on a one-year contract valued at $800,000. Hunt, 32, appeared in 12 games with the Minnesota Wild last season, scoring one goal and recording four penalty minutes. Throughout the past three seasons spent with the Wild, he has collected 25 points (12-13-25) and 16 penalty minutes.

 

The Maple Ridge, BC native has played in 191 career NHL games between the Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, Vegas Golden Knights and Minnesota Wild accumulating 59 points (19-40-59) and 28 penalty minutes.

 

The 5’9″, 177-pound defenceman has also played 287 AHL games with the Chicago Wolves, Oklahoma City Barons and Bakersfield Condors, recording 209 points (57-152-209) and 106 penalty minutes.

 

Brady Keeper has agreed to terms on a two-year contract worth an AAV of $762,500. The 6’2″, 197-pound defenceman was born in Cross Lake, MB, and was the first person from the Pimicikamak Cree Nation to play an NHL game. Keeper was an undrafted free agent signing by the Florida Panthers on March 18, 2019. Ten days later he made his NHL debut against the Ottawa Senators.

 

Last season Keeper played in 11 games for the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch, recording 3 points (2-1-3) and 12 penalty minutes. He also played in his second NHL regular season game on April 8 versus Carolina.

 

Keeper completed his first professional season during the pandemic interrupted 2019-20 season. He played in 61 games for AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds scoring 18 points (six goals, 12 assists). Keeper also made his post-season debut in a Stanley Cup Qualifier game for the Panthers on Aug. 4, 2020 against the New York Islanders.

SAN JOSE, CA – San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed forward Andrew Cogliano to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

 

“Andrew is a durable, versatile player who brings an element of speed and excels as a penalty killer,” said Wilson. “His addition gives our coaching staff flexibility with an additional, trusted veteran presence on our forward lines.”

 

Cogliano, 34, posted 11 points (five goals, six assists) and 24 penalty minutes in 54 games with the Dallas Stars last season. He was third amongst team forwards in short-handed ice time last season and fifth among Dallas forwards in blocked shots (24) while averaging 13:56 TOI/game.

 

In his NHL career, Cogliano has played in 1,066 NHL games with Edmonton, Anaheim and Dallas, collecting 410 points (240 goals, 410 assists) and 371 penalty minutes, while playing as a plus-player (+32).

 

He holds the sixth-longest consecutive games streak in NHL history at 830 games (10/04/2007 through 01/13/2018) and throughout his career, has played in 99.2% of his team’s games that he has been eligible to play in.

 

He has also appeared in 100 Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring 28 points (ten goals, 18 assists) with Anaheim and Dallas, including the 2020 Stanley Cup Final with Dallas.

 

Internationally, the Toronto, Ontario native has represented Canada twice at the World Junior Championships (2006 and 2007), capturing gold medals in both tournaments

 

The five-foot-ten, 175-pound forward was originally selected by Edmonton in the first round of the 2005 NHL Draft (25th overall).

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has agreed to terms with forward Frederick Gaudreau (FREHD-uhr-ihk goo-DROH) on a two-year, $2.4 million contract ($1.2 million AAV).

 

Gaudreau, 28 (5/1/93), recorded 10 points (2-8=10) and a plus-10 rating in 19 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. He set career highs in points, assists and plus/minus rating and won 87-of-162 face-offs taken (53.7%). The 6-foot, 179-pound native of Bromont, Que., added three points (1-2=3) in six Stanley Cup Playoff contests and led the team with a plus-3 rating. Gaudreau also tallied four points (1-3=4) and 16 shots on goal in six games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2020-21. He recorded 28 points (11-17=28) in 42 games with the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) in 2019-20.

 

He owns 18 points (5-13=18) and a plus-12 rating in 103 career NHL games with Nashville and Pittsburgh (2016-19, 2020-21). Gaudreau has collected six points (4-2=6) and a plus-5 rating in 14 career Stanley Cup Playoff contests. He scored his first three Stanley Cup Playoff goals during the 2017 Stanley Cup Final versus the Penguins, which included the game-winning goals in Games 3 and 4. Gaudreau became the first player since Johnny Harms of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1944 to score his first three career NHL goals in a Stanley Cup Final. He made his NHL debut on Oct. 22, 2016 vs. Pittsburgh and recorded his first career NHL regular season goal on Nov. 11, 2018 vs. St. Louis. Gaudreau was originally signed to an AHL contract by Milwaukee on June 12, 2014.

 

He collected 176 points (78-98=176) in 286 career AHL contests with Milwaukee and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (2014-18, 2019-21) and was named to the 2016 AHL All-Star Game. Gaudreau recorded 134 points (50-84=134) in 195 games during three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with Shawinigan and Drummondville (2011-14). He won the 2012 Memorial Cup with the Cataractes and was named the QMJHL Most Sportsmanlike Player in 2013-14, winning the Frank J. Selke Memorial Trophy.

Coleman, a native of Plano, Texas, was a back-to-back Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning adding eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points and 53 penalty minutes in 53 playoff games over the past two post seasons. He has played 301 career games netting 71 goals and adding 55 assists for 126 points along with 241 penalty minutes after three and a half seasons in New Jersey and a year and a half with Tampa. The 5’11, 207lbs forward was originally drafted in the 3rd round (75th overall) by New Jersey in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

RALEIGH, N.C. – Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed forward C.J. Smith to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay Smith $750,000 at the NHL level and $250,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level with a $300,000 guarantee.

 

“C.J. is a winger who has put up strong numbers at the AHL level,” said Waddell. “This signing adds depth to our forward group.”

 

Smith, 26, has played 14 career NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, posting three points (2g, 1a). The 5’11”, 183-pound forward has registered 13 points (4g, 9a) in 15 AHL games with Rochester in 2020-21 and has recorded 142 points (61g, 81a) in 184 career AHL games with the Americans. Prior to turning professional, Smith skated in 120 NCAA games with UMass-Lowell from 2014-17, earning 125 points (56g, 69a). The Des Moines, Iowa, native also tallied 45 points (27g, 18a) in 59 USHL games with Muskegon and Chicago in 2013-14.
