The Toronto Blue Jays have sent C J.J. D’Orazio and LHP Yaifer Perdomo to the Arizona Diamondbacks as the players to be named later for the July 30 trade of RHP Joakim Soria.
Red Sox announce roster moves
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today made the following roster moves:
Placed shortstop Xander Bogaerts and infielder/outfielder Yairo Muñoz on the COVID-19 Related injured list.
Selected infielder Jack López and right-hander pitcher John Schreiber from Triple-A Worcester.
Reinstated right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier from the 60-day injured list.
Reinstated infielder/outfielder Danny Santana from the 10-day injured list.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Bogaerts, 28, has hit .298 (137-for-459) with 33 doubles, 20 home runs, and 70 RBI in 124 games this season, making 118 starts at shortstop. The right-handed hitter ranks among the top 10 in the American League in batting average (6th, .298), on-base percentage (9th, .366), OPS (10th, .867), and doubles (5th, 33). He leads AL shortstops this season in doubles, slugging percentage (.501), OPS, and extra-base hits (53).
Muñoz, 26, has played in five games for Boston since being selected from Worcester on Friday, appearing in three games at second base and one in left field. He has also hit .318 (107-for-336) with an .808 OPS in 83 games for Worcester this season.
Schreiber, 27, was claimed off waivers from the Detroit Tigers in February. This will be his first stint on Boston’s active major league roster. The right-hander has made 28 appearances (eight starts) for Worcester this season, going 2-3 with a 3.10 ERA (20 ER/58.0 IP) while throwing at least 2.0 innings in 18 of his outings. In 28 career major league appearances, all with Detroit from 2019-20, Schreiber is 2-1 with a 6.28 ERA (20 ER/28.2 IP).
López, 28, will be making his first appearance on an active major league roster. The right-handed hitter has split the 2021 season between Worcester (58 games) and Double-A Portland (five games), combining to hit .274 (59-for-215) with 20 extra-base hits and 39 RBI while making 18 starts at shortstop, 16 at third base, 14 at second base, and 10 in center field. Lopez won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Brasier, 34, has been on the injured list since April 1 with a left calf strain. He made eight appearances between Worcester and Portland during his rehabilitation assignment, tossing 1.0 scoreless inning in each of his last four outings. Brasier is 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA (49 ER/123.1 IP) in 128 career appearances (one start) for the Los Angeles Angels (2013) and Red Sox (2018-20).
Santana, 30, was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 22 with a left groin strain. The switch hitter played six games between Worcester and Portland during his rehabilitation assignment, batting .444 (8-for-18) with one double, three home runs, and six RBI. The switch hitter has played in 33 games with Boston this season and batted .171 (18-for-105) with two doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 13 RBI, making 11 starts in center field, 11 at first base, two in left field, and two at designated hitter.

Dodgers add Ryan Meisinger & Zach McKinstry to active roster
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers added right-handed pitcher Ryan Meisinger and infielder/outfielder Zach McKinstry to the active roster.
Meisinger, 27, was claimed yesterday from the Chicago Cubs. He went 0-0 with a 12.27 ERA (10 ER/7.1 IP) and six strikeouts in seven games for the Cubs. The right-hander has made stops in Baltimore (2018), St. Louis (2019) and Chicago (2021) and is a combined 2-1 with a 7.26 ERA (25 ER/31.0 IP) and 30 strikeouts. In 171 minor league games, spanning six seasons, he is a combined 14-13 with 23 saves in 24 chances and a 2.68 ERA (81 ER/ 272.0 IP). He was drafted by the Orioles in the 11th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Radford University.
McKinstry, 26, returns for his third stint with the club. On the season, he is batting .217 with seven homers and 29 RBI in 59 games for the Dodgers. He played in 20 games for Triple-Oklahoma City, batting .257 with three homers and eight RBI. In six minor league seasons in the Dodgers organization, he has hit a combined .269 (349-for-1296) with 33 homers and 157 RBI across five different levels. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 33rd round of Central Michigan University in the 2016 First Year Player Draft.
Phillies add Bedrosian, Rosso to roster
The Phillies have selected the contracts of right-handed pitchers Cam Bedrosian and Ramón Rosso from triple-A Lehigh Valley, the team announced today. As of September 1, major league rosters are expanded to 28 players for the remainder of the regular season. Additionally, right-hander Seranthony Domínguez was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Lehigh Valley.
Bedrosian, 29, was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent on July 7 and made 16 appearances for Lehigh Valley, going 2-2 with two saves and a 2.25 ERA. He had 20 strikeouts in 20.0 innings (9 SO/9.0 IP) and held opponents to a .240 batting average. Bedrosian has made 300 major league appearances – including 15 this season – and is 17-13 with nine saves, a 3.79 ERA and 305 strikeouts in 292.1 innings for the Los Angeles Angels (2014-20), Cincinnati Reds (2021) and Oakland A’s (2021).
Bedrosian’s father, Steve Bedrosian, pitched in the major leagues for 15 seasons (1981-95), including four years with the Phillies (1986-89) during which he won the National League Cy Young Award in 1987 when he totaled 40 saves and posted a 2.83 ERA in 65 relief appearances. If Cam Bedrosian were to appear in a game for the Phillies, they would become the third father/son combination in Phillies history, along with Ruben Amaro Sr. and Ruben Amaro Jr. and Mark Leiter and Mark Leiter Jr. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, there has never been a father/son pair to pitch a game for the same team, with one of the two winning a Cy Young Award with that particular team.
Rosso has pitched in 19 games (three starts) for the IronPigs this season and is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA, while holding opponents to a .238 batting average. The 25-year-old appeared in one game for the Phillies earlier this season, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings.
To make room on the 40-man roster for these transactions, first baseman Rhys Hoskins has been transferred to the 60-day injured list and Didi Gregorius has been placed on the restricted list. Gregorius is currently in Curaçao following the recent birth of his child.
Mets roster moves
FLUSHING, N.Y., – The New York Mets today announced the club has recalled outfielders Albert Almora, Jr. and Khalil Lee from Triple-A Syracuse.
Cubs activate RHP Dillon Maples and RHP Adbert Alzolay from 10-day I.L.
MINNEAPOLIS – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitchers Dillon Maples and Adbert Alzolay from the 10-day injured list. The active roster currently stands at 28 players.
Maples, 29, landed on the 10-day injured list, July 29, with a right middle finger blister. The right-handed pitcher is 1-0 with a 2.28 ERA (7 ER/27.2 IP) in 24 outings out of the Cubs bullpen this season. He has walked 19 and stuck out 36, good for an average of 11.7 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched and has held opponents to a .132 average (12-for-91), which is the second-lowest average against among major league relievers (min. 90 batters faced).
Alzolay, 26, was placed on the 10-day injured list, August 14, with a left hamstring strain. The right-handed pitcher is 4-13 with a 5.16 ERA (61 ER/106.1 IP) and 107 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .239 average (96-for-401) in 21 starts for the Cubs this season.
Alzolay made one rehab start for Triple-A Iowa on August 25, allowing four runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 2.0 innings.
Twins make September roster additions
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Joe Ryan from Triple-A St. Paul, and have returned right-handed pitcher Randy Dobnak from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 60-day Injured List.
Ryan, 25, has appeared in 14 games (13 starts) between Triple-A St. Paul and Triple-A Durham this season, going 4-3 with a 3.41 ERA (66.0 IP, 25 ER), 12 walks, 92 strikeouts, a 0.79 WHIP and a .173 (40-for-231) opponent batting average. The San Francisco, California native was one of two minor league pitchers (also Drew Strotman) acquired via trade with Tampa Bay on July 22, in exchange for designated hitter Nelson Cruz. At the time of the trade he was in Tokyo, Japan competing in the Olympics, and helped Team USA win the silver medal in baseball. He was originally drafted by the Rays in the seventh round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of California State University, Stanislaus and is currently the Twins’ number six prospect, according to MLB.com. Ryan is scheduled to make the start tonight against the Chicago Cubs and will wear uniform number 74.
Dobnak, who has missed the Twins’ last 61 games with a right middle finger strain, made two starts on rehab assignment for Single-A Fort Myers and Triple-A St. Paul, allowing one run on five hits in 7.2 innings pitched with four walks and seven strikeouts. Prior to being placed on the 10-day Injured List on June 24 (retroactive to June 21), he went 1-6 with a 7.83 ERA (43.2 IP, 38 ER), one save, 12 walks and 25 strikeouts in 13 games (5 starts) for the Twins. Dobnak is scheduled to start Friday night’s series and roadtrip opener at Tampa Bay.
To make room for Ryan on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Kenta Maeda (right forearm tightness) to the 60-day Injured List. Maeda, who was placed on the 10-day Injured List on August 24, is scheduled to have surgery on his right elbow today in Dallas, Texas.
Additionally, right-handed pitcher Edgar García has cleared waivers and will be assigned to Triple-A St. Paul. García appeared in six games for the Twins this season after being claimed off waivers from Cincinnati on July 30, allowing 12 runs on nine hits in 10.1 innings pitched, with seven walks and eight strikeouts.
White Sox make six roster moves
CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s series finale vs. Pittsburgh, the Chicago White Sox made the following six roster moves:
- Placed All-Star SS Tim Anderson on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to August 29) with a left hamstring strain;
- Recalled RHP Matt Foster from Class AAA Charlotte;
- Returned OF Billy Hamilton from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list;
- Designated INF/OF Jake Lamb for assignment;
- Selected the contract of INF Romy González from Charlotte;
- Recalled INF/OF Gavin Sheets from Charlotte
Anderson, 28, is batting .302/.331/.458 (140-463) with 26 doubles, 14 home runs, 53 RBI, 82 runs scored and 17 stolen bases over 108 games this season. He ranks fifth in the American League in average, tied for fifth in multihit games and tied for ninth in runs scored.
Foster, 26, has gone 2-1 with a 5.67 ERA (21 ER/33.1 IP), one save, two holds and 36 strikeouts in 31 relief appearances over four stints with the Sox in 2021.
Hamilton, 30, was placed on the injured list on August 1 (retroactive to July 31) with a right oblique strain. He is hitting .226 (24-106) with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, 11 RBI, eight stolen bases and 19 runs scored in 57 games this season, his first with the White Sox.
Lamb, 30, batted .212/.321/.389 (24-113) with six homers, 13 RBI and 20 runs scored over 43 games this season, his first with the Sox after signing as a free agent on March 30.
González, 24, is hitting .275/.357/.525 (92-335) with 15 doubles, 23 home runs, 57 RBI, 58 runs scored and 22 stolen bases over 87 combined games with Class AA Birmingham (78) and Charlotte (nine) this season. He is one of seven players in the minor leagues with 20 homers and 20 steals.
González, 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, was selected by the Sox in the 18th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami. He has no major-league experience. González will wear uniform No. 5.
Sheets, 25, is hitting .295/.362/.507 (67-227) with 15 doubles, 11 home runs, 46 RBI and 36 runs scored over 60 games with Charlotte this season. He also batted .225/.293/.483 (20-89) with six home runs, 16 RBI and 10 runs scored in 29 games over his first stint with the White Sox from June 29-August 8.
Following the moves, the White Sox active roster increases to 28, and 40-man roster remains at 40.
Colorado Rockies transactions
The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitchers Antonio Santos and Justin Lawrence, and have selected the contract of right-hander Julian Fernández from Triple-A Albuquerque. Right-hander Jon Gray was placed on the Injured List with right forearm tightness.
