Minnesota’s victory last Aug. 31 in Bradenton halted a five-game series losing streak. The Lynx are winless in their last five trips to Los Angeles, dating to a 77-74 triumph on Sept. 6, 2016 at Staples Center.

 

First Meeting: Crystal Dangerfield scored a team-high 16 points and teamed with Rachel Banham on a fourth-quarter run that carried the Lynx past Los Angeles, 80-64, on June 12 at Target Center. Sylvia Fowles finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four blocks while Te’a Cooper led the Sparks with 17 points and Amanda Zahui B. totaled 15 points and eight rebounds.

Matchup Notes

In their final game before the Olympic Break, the Los Angeles Sparks (6-12) face the Minnesota Lynx (11-7) at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Sunday July 11 at 6:00 PM. The Sparks most recently lost 71-62 to the league leading Seattle Storm. The Sparks held the Storm to just 37.7% shooting, and erased a 17-point deficit to cut the lead to as little as one point in the fourth quarter. Sparks guard Erica Wheeler had a team-high 22 points while shooting 8-for-13 from the field. Center Amanda Zahui B. added nine rebounds of her own. The Lynx most recently defeated the Las Vegas Aces 77-67. Four Lynx players scored in double figures including: Layshia Clarendon (18), Sylvia Fowles (14), Damiris Dantas (14), and Kayla McBride (10). In their first match-up this season, the Lynx defeated the Sparks 80-64 at the Target Center. This will be their second of three match-ups during the 2021 season.

Dodgers recall of Zach Reks

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled outfielder Zach Reks from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed right-handed pitcher Edwin Uceta on the injured list with a left lumbar strain.

 

Reks, 27, will be recalled for the second time in his career after making his Major League on June 21 and going 0-for-2. He has spent the majority of the season in Oklahoma City, batting .325 (52-for-160) with eight homers and 29 RBI in 42 games. In 298 career minor league games, he has batted a combined .303 (324-for-1068) with 43 homers and 174 RBI. The Chicago, IL native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 10th round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Kentucky.

 

Uceta, 23, heads to the injured list for the first time in his career and is 0-3 with a 8.10 ERA (15 ER/16.2 IP) and 18 strikeouts in 11 games (one start) for the Dodgers. The Dominican Republic native has been with the Dodgers organization since signing as international free agent on July 2, 2016. In parts of six minor league seasons, he has posted a 20-14 record with a 3.77 ERA

Mets promote Brett Baty to Double-A

FLUSHING, N.Y., – The New York Mets today announced the team has promoted minor league infielder Brett Baty to Binghamton (AA). Baty will report to Binghamton following the Futures Game, which he is scheduled to play in tomorrow.

 

Baty, 21, hit .309 (56-181) with 14 doubles, seven homers, 27 runs scored and 34 RBI in 51 games with Brooklyn (High-A) this season. The Mets first round pick (12th overall) in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, had a .397 OBP, .514 slugging percentage and a .911 OPS.

Boston Selects Right-Handed Pitcher Austin Brice from Triple-A Worcester

 

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Matt Andriese on the 10-day injured list with right hamstring tendinitis. To fill Andriese’s spot on the active major league roster, the Red Sox selected right-handed pitcher Austin Brice from Triple-A Worcester.

 

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

 

Andriese, 31, pitched the seventh inning of last night’s 11-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. In 26 appearances this season (all in relief), the right-hander is 2-3 with one save, a 6.03 ERA (25 ER/37.1 IP), 38 strikeouts, and 11 walks.

 

Brice, 29, made Boston’s Opening Day roster and appeared in 12 games for the Red Sox, posting a 6.94 ERA (9 ER/11.2 IP) with nine strikeouts, six walks, and a .267 opponent batting average. Since he was designated for assignment on May 21, the right-hander has posted a 1.20 ERA (2 ER/15.0 IP) with a 1.00 WHIP and a .140 opponent batting average in 12 appearances for Worcester, striking out 17 batters and walking eight.

HOUSTON – Houston Dynamo FC will loan goalkeeper Kyle Morton to Memphis 901 FC in the USL Championship, the Club announced today.

 

The loan will begin with Saturday’s game against the Birmingham Legion at BBVA Field. Morton joined Houston after one season with Saint Louis FC, who also competes in the USL Championship and finished as a finalist for the 2020 USL Championship Goalkeeper of the Year. The 6-4 goalkeeper finished with three clean sheets, and posted seven victories in 2020, while leading Saint Louis FC to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Orlando City SC Loans Derek Dodson to Hartford Athletic

Lions forward joins USL Championship side on loan

 

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando City SC has loaned forward Derek Dodson to USL Championship side Hartford Athletic and may terminate the loan agreement at any time, it was announced today. Hartford currently sits third in USL Championship’s Atlantic Division with 16 points in eight games. Athletic next plays at home against New York Red Bulls II this Saturday, July 10.

 

Dodson, 22, was taken by the Lions eighth overall in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft with their first pick of the draft. The Aurora, Ill. native joined the Lions following four years at Georgetown University. In his senior season at Georgetown, the forward played seven games, scored two goals and added three assists
